Ian, Tim and others, what do you recommend for cleaning dust and dirt from a camera lens and coated glass ND filter? I’m going to stock up on some supplies for the trip and I’m thinking that I should up my game from using sunglass cleaner and compressed air from my onboard air system.

@RevISK @BombCity
Compressed air is best then a well washed 100% cotton t-shirt. I never used anything moist, it’s bad for the coating.

I travel with a Rocket Blower and only wear well washed 100% cotton grey shirts in roughly 18% grey so I can white balance and clean my lenses.

Truthfully, I really only clean my glass really well in my studio, otherwise you risk scratching the front element. Best advise for you is to always use use a lens cap or throw a clear filter on and treat it as disposable.-

I will add that I’d rather have dust on my lens and shoot through it then add another layer of glass unless it’s an artistic filter.

Thanks, Ian. I got some water on my drone ND lens when I flew near a local waterfall that is closed to the public due to rockfall danger. I just left the water on the lens and it seemed to dry okay. I am practicing as I would like to fly into the Uncompahgre Gorge to take a picture of Bear Creek Falls.

I can appreciate a 100% cotton t-shirt snob. It's a (cotton topped) hill I will die on.

I just looked and my shirts in the store are 65-100% cotton depending on the color. Sport grey is 90% cotton and the heathers are 65%. Most of the solid colors are 100%. I had no idea that color made a difference. I guess I need to start buying more black shirts!

Wide vs long focal length does make a difference in how or if I clean a lens.

It's more of a brand thing, they're out there. Don't get me started on the euro snuggy slim fit sh!t. I have so many "cool" shirts in my closet that I'll never wear, they should just be condemned to knuckle job rags.
I digress.

There are seamstresses out there who make blanket/quilts out of t-shirts. Cut out the cool part and rag the rest!

And doesn’t everyone pull out a Coors Light when you’re at 12k elevation, you have no transportation, it’s raining & you’re wearing shorts?
