Has anyone in the San Diego area had experience with TLC Auto repair? http://tlcautorepair.net/. Any other San Diego area LC experts? I purchased a 96 LC with 219,XXX miles and don't really know what PM was done, if any, by the prior owner. Although I tackled the seat fix and sunroof drain cleaning tasks, I am not yet up to front axle rebuilds or phh replacement. TLC is where the old owner took the LC whenever he needed anything done. Thank you.

Have no idea about TLC Auto. Someone else will chime in, I'm sure. SD Trux(sp) gets great reviews. I know some members take their LC's there and even have driven from Orange County to use them.

x3 on John at SD Trux. I too drive from south Orange County to have my truck serviced by John. PITA to do so, but he's honest to a fault and will tell you like it is, won't oversell, etc...you get the picture.

I used TLC when I first moved to SD with my 87 Turbo Supra but I was in school then and tried to use a mechanic as little as possible. They were fine when they taught me not to install BOSCH plugs. that was my first lesson in just using TOYOTA parts.
When I bought the Cruiser I soon after got a job off of Miramar Rd and I was excited to find a reputable mechanic just a couple minutes from my work with SD Trux. Now it's not as convenient dropping off my rig but I make it happen because John and the guys are the best.

Ha! And the last three of us that posted all have had the top half of the engines rebuilt. Maybe you should stay away? HA just kidding.

True that! John put us BACK ON THE ROAD tho!

Thank you everyone. I have an appointment scheduled with John and am looking forward to meeing his whole team.

With 219,XXX and counting on the clock, a rebuild may be in my future. That said, it is nice to know there is someone with the experience in putting it all back together again.

You may be ok with a 96, but don't tell Mark (96) or Dan (97)! '94's have been most notorious on HG's. They had an 'older' head gasket design that the newer models didn't. Evidently it was more prone to failure at around 200K based on too many years reading boards like this. Just let John know you've had multiple referrals from IH8MUD. He'll take good care of you!

Not all '94s loose the HG (knocking on wood as I type). I'm still going strong at >225k miles.

Nathan, Dan, Brent and Mark,

x4 for me on John at SD Trux. Just got mine back. He did a fantastic job fixing my A/C and advising me on what should, can and might be nice to be done. Thank you all for the recommendation.:steer:
