I really need to get a shot in good light. It blew me away how many colors came through. I genuinely was going to replace the body to save time now I am going to do the patches welding and what not. The patina is just too good to remove. That is genuine abstract art on a Jeep!!
I would love a flat fender. I think it would be pretty tight for me though. I have sat in one before though. I have only driven my m38a1 10 feet in the yard back and fourth but I can tell this thing is a tank. I cant wait to daily it some this summer.I had a '46 CJ2a and a '53 CJ3b back in the day. Such awesome vehicles.
Wow was there any color it wasn't over it's life?I cleaned it up did a commet wash and did some shine juice yesterday - DUDE the patina on this thing is amazing! Ill keep it land cruiser on here but I needed to share! and this is in bad lighting! 74 years in the making!
i think i counted 4 different military style greens in addition to the yellow green, red, primer grey in spots and the rust haha.Wow was there any color it wasn't over it's life?
That spacer, and it's tube, were for the EGR and in the early years was a "Ca. only" thing. The Fed. carbs didn't have it. I thought about removing the block but figured I'd need different fasteners and linkage rods so I just cut that big tube off flush with the block and filled the hole with JB weld.I might try and take that spacer out. not sure yet.
It started as a F155 and the head still is but it's a '76 2F block. Is that an F155? What are your summer and winter oil blends?
yeah good to know about the egr tube. I think I only have this carb because it was a cheep rebuildable one that was left over from my fj40 project. But yeah I thought about the linkage if I took that egr spacer out.. I just have a rubber cap on it now but I may plug it up like you did. I think my main concern is the fitmit under the hood and the air cleaner fitment. then also mocking somthing up for the throttle cable. I also might just use this as a test carb just to see if i can get the slight bogging to stop at slower speeds. I think like everyone says webers are really too small for 2f engine. That spacer, and it's tube, were for the EGR and in the early years was a "Ca. only" thing. The Fed. carbs didn't have it. I don't like those '75 and later carbs because of the vacuum secondary. I like my '74 carb with the mechanical secondary and the simpler fuel cut-off solenoid (it's really an idle-air cut-off but that's for another thread). The height of the carb also depends on the intake manifold. I use an F manifold which, I think, sits the carb lower under the hood. I can't run a stock air cleaner because power steering pump so i found a K&N on the rice racer rack that's better than nothing.
Those tiny little hairpin clips for the fast idle linkage come in a Keyster kit. I got the special stainless steel SST for those clips that I carry in my center console just in case...

Ohh yeah all that I have done that. no pinging. I cant remember how much advance but I think it was 12 degrees. 750-780 rpm idle, idles nice. no vac leaks. I am going to do a deep dive here soon. I am going to install this factory carb and see if that solves it. and I really want to put a new oem style carb. The carb is solid and I have been through it using that pinhead guide. Think I am buying a earlier F155 style air cleaner to run some sort of toyota carb in the 55. I might need to find an early style carb and rebuild it at some point I guess if this carb does not work out.Is the advance on your dizzy working?
any vac leaks?
how does it idle? idle RPMs?
Have you adjusted the timing a bit by rotating the dizzy?
Does it ping/knock in 3rd when you floor it?
its really just at that 15-30mph idle circuit speed. Once you get into the throttle a little its fine. at 30 - 55 it runs normal. But also I think the carb could be tuned a little better but the previous weber 38 was tuned as perfectly as I could get it and it was the same. The only other thing would be a valve is out of adjustment. But I did go through and adjust all the valves 2 times. Pretty confident I have that good. the other thing I thought were the points maybe where not adjusted good enough but it was in spec. How does it do at speed? Have you gotten it up to speed on the 55mph zone?
Can you accelerate while in high gear or does it bog then too?
