Yes,my thoughts too- but considering the low sales in the US and particularly the low market for the Snorkel on said low sales- I'm sure it was a conscience decision. To design and then to injection mold for a few sales probably does not make as much financial sense but you would think they would do it to maintain market share. Or maybe it was as simple as they didn't have a 5.7 to model the design after. I had to wait 6 weeks to get this one across the globe.

I picked up mine on impulse. Called to check the price on it and there was only one left in stock and the next shipment was 4-8weeks away so went straight down and picked it up

Thanks, BTUMAN - very helpful

One thing that I found when doing this was what appears to be the KDSS hydraulic vents that are at the same location and level of the old factory air intake location. I worry that the in water fording, if water gets into these little mini snorkels, what the impact will be? In other words, the engine will be fine with my new snorkel but you would have to purge and flush your KDSS hydraulics if you got into water above this? I can go in below this and intercept these and move them to a higher location- but wanted to know what they were first.

Did those vents hook up to the old air intake, or are they just open to the atmosphere?

They were separate and run down to what looks like two separate expansion reservoirs that I am guessing are for the KDSS.

OK, good to know they are separate from the air intake system.

Since the KDSS system is a high pressure, sealed hydraulic system, I doubt these "vents" are for that; but I don't know what they are for

Today I installed the ARB Differential Breather to complete the water fording capability. I brought both front and rear differential up to the top of the engine. I did not do the transmission or transfer case as I am yet to determine accessibility and location.

Those look like the vents for the engine air pump. You do not want to get water in those either.

As a general rule of thumb anything with the word "vent" in it should be kept away from water. :hillbilly:

BTUMAN, hows the noise level with your Safari Snorkel? I see you have a roof rack and all, but any new audible addition? I was leaning towards TJM airtec or even the 200 series OEM set, but looks like safari is quite famous.

BTUMAN, have you had any issues with your MAF since the install of the snorkel?

There is no noise- but maybe it is hidden by the tire noise or the Stone Temple Pilots on the radio. I thought long and hard about what Snorkle to put on. I like the looks of the TJM, but in the end I went with the industry tried and true and future parts or replacement since I have the hole cut. For example, let's say 12 years from now I roll the LC and need a new one- if TJM is no longer making, then I have a hole without a fit. I believe Safari will be around for a long time. Also, I have one on the 2000 that has been on for 13 years and still looks new- no sun degrading. My thoughts- but just that- others may have other ideas.

No issues with MAF. Didn't know there could be any, but glad there is not.

I have seen Aussie guys turning the snorkel opening the opposite direction because of MAF problems. It looks pretty stupid, but supposedly solves the issues.

No issues to report7 gasser. Maybe that is on the other engine lines.

Daddy like.

nothing against having a snorkeler on the truck, I have one on my FZJ80 - but this Safari delight is outdated . I like TJM way better looking snorkeler.

Yeah. There are a few threads on this if you search. I'm happy with the ARB. Someone should install one a TJM and start a new thread. I have been stopped three times already getting into or out of the LC with folks asking me what it was- next time I'm just going to say Flux Capacitor.
