OK, so this is not cruiser related, but I’m sure its applicable due to the age of most of these trucks. I have a 1958 Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider that has been in my family for well over 43 years. Over the past two years it has been my primary project vehicle. I just wrapped up the rebuild of both of the 40 DCNF Weber carbs and decided i would pull the tank to have it cleaned out due to the length of time it has sat.
I'm happy I did this, but i am now trying to figure out what is the best solution for potential rust in my tank. After pulling the tank I laid it on its side and heard what sounded like wet sand fall from one side to the other (i'm sure rust flakes). My plan is to take it to Orr Radiator in Kansas City to have it chemically cleaned.
My question is, do any of you have experience in having a fuel tank lined? Orr Radiator offers this service. I have heard both good and bad from doing this. Any recommendations? Do any of you know of a reputable local place that can make me a replication of this tank if it comes down to it? I don’t think its so bad that I need to have a new one made, but its a consideration i must start thinking about.
