Paint holding up?

Hey Alaska,

I know this is an old thread, but hopefully you're subscribed still. How is the paint holding up under sun, rain and snow? I'm looking to do something similar to my vehicle soon and I'm trying to decide on paint...I like the idea of using a rattle can because it makes touch-up so easy. Something ideal for dings and scratches that are common on offroad trips.

Thanks.

It faded a bit in the sun...however, a little compound and the paint came back to life!!!!
I love the touch up capabilities as well.
It was a great idea....after wheeling hardcore or semi core
touch up is a snap!
It still looks great!

Hi everyone,
Count me in as another inspired dude as a result of this thread!!! I'm going to go with the Rustoleum Semi-Gloss bright white! :) Probably going to take me a lot longer though, much of my body work will need piles of bondo and large hammers.....no welding skills here :)

I do have a few quick questions: clear coat....I use my newly purchased 60 for family camping and daily driving, so I'm not too worried about having to clean up too much trail damage. My question is this, will it be worth the extra $$ to put a coat or two of the Rustoleum clear on top of 3-4 coats of white? If so...do I wet sand before the clear and in between clear coats?

With or without clear coat what is the best way to care for a "rattle can" paint job....wax/clay bars??

Is there a guideline or rule of thumb on how big or deep a dent can be before it is too big for bondo? I have some large dents in a few spots that I want to hammer out if possible....how much hammering do I need to do so that I can reduce my chances of bondo cracking and falling off??

Sorry if this isnt really the best thread for these questions....I'm a total amateur and have searched the forum for day's!!

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

try to pull your dents out by drilling a small hole or many holes depending on the size of the dent... then screw a drywall screw or something with some length into the hole you drilled. Grab with a pair of vise grips and yank out the dent....they also make a slide hammer tool for this as well. But the budget way is the first option. Try to get the dent as small as you can before filling it.
as far as gloss over rustoleum, I would just shoot the Gloss white insted of semi-gloss. that way you will eliminate the clear coat step. i have tried clear coat and have never been impressed with it after 6 months.
HTH!

I just read this, and judging by how nice yours turned out with a little patience, I will probably do something similar with my truck. Once all the work is done on her.

i just installed my new double cardon rear drive shaft....
I gotta tell you, alot of my so called "problems" amazingly disappeared.
Nice and smooth especially around 80 - 90mph where it used to be shakey and vibratey

90 mph? I might see that speed if I drove it off a cliff.

Nah - too much wind resistance even off a cliff... maybe 85 tops...
