Kevin, if you're asking me for a full stuff photo, post #13 shows that XZL in there.

:whoops: Darn dial-up, I missed it! Are you happy with the length, or would you make it different if you remade it?

great work on your truck.

Rear suspension

While doing the front control arms and trying to determine how much travel the front could get I got a lot of info from a couple of folks here about running the Bilstein 7100 shocks in the rear. Here again, the extra 1" from the body lift allows me to put the top mount up a bit higher. These are the 14" travel with the remote resevoir. Valving is 275/78.

Probably a little longer, somewhere between 0.5" min and 1" max. I'd really want to put the biggest tire I'd run on there and cycle it through. The way mine is now a 37" tire stuffs in the well nearly dead center or as close to it as I could expect given I didn't get to decide on the length of David's arms. I still have the stock lower rear arms and have considered just sleeving them with a threaded adjustment on one end and using them to play around with length until you get it right. Then use those as the "final" measurement. David's arms are very tough and nearly a work of art so I've never wanted to consider cutting them.

Clown whats with the remote resevoir? It looks loke carbon fiber in the photo.

That's just a shipping mesh to protect all the bling :)

You want to send me some pics of how yours are mounted? (hint, hint)

No problem just PM me your Email address. If you want I can also send you a picture of a bracket to hold your front sway bar when it is disconnected. :grinpimp:

How about you post them so we can all see how they are mounted :D

awesome cruiser porn clown

for the 7100's what did you do about the upper stud? I thought they came stock with eye/eye. Did you use an adaptor or get a custom stud fitting. Also what are the exact dimensions?

Semlin, those 7100's have the eyes at both ends. I'm only using them in back for now until I can prove I can get more travel out of the front than the OME 73L's can provide. In the back I'm just cutting the bottom pin off and welding in a C pin bracket. At the top I'll do a modified version of what ActionJackson did using a plate with the center cut out to mount where the stock one that accepts the shock pin is now with plates raising the eye mount bolt as high as I can get it.

One reason I have always needed a truck with a tailgate and having a dual battery setup is for some very specific equipment I have...

There is definately flex to be found in the front. I think those arms look great, I really can't wait to see what you have to say about them. If it turns out the way I think it may, I might order up some slee arms and mod them. I know I ran with the front drivers side bolt out of my stock arm for one trail ride and it made a HUGE difference in flex.

Lookin real good Mike, hell I'm even learning things about your rig that I missed when I gave it a good once over.

I love your cruiser, you have done a great job...I just moved to az but lived in Redlands for the past 4 years and always wished i could have seen it in person.

by the way I am installing the 6" tomarrow morning, Do you know the torque specs on the arms front and upper rear arms as well as the panhard rods front and rear?

So did you buy your lower rear control arms built or did you have to modify them like the new fronts you are working on?

thanks
Rob

Rob, sorry to have missed you while you were in Redlands but I'll gladly come over to AZ! I really miss the southeastern part of the state. Did quite a bit of "lizard work" there.

No torque numbers but I have a FSM I can check later. For now, try "tight";)

David Q. built a small number of those rear arms to his and George S.'s specs. I just got lucky in wanting/needing a set when they were available.

Hey Mike,

That's a very nice truck you have there

WAY nice truck dude. Anything at all that you would change? Or would like to do in the future?

Thanks 76BigheadFJ40. That's a hornets nest of a question though

In terms of what would I change...Somedays I'd say, yeah, I'd do it like it is but have someone else do all of the work. Somedays I'm glad I can crawl under/over/through the truck.

Future plans...I'm probably going to ditch the front suspension eventually and do a 3/4-link w/panhard someday. I'd also swap in a 1-HD-FT turbodiesel and 5-speed tomorrow if they were more easily available and I had less on my plate. I love the petrol turbo and auto trans setup but at this stage the tdi and stick would suit me better.

Hummmm, you and me both. We need to talk.

Side markers

Still undecided about how to proceed in mounting the non-US oem side-marker lights. The "40th" badge is right where it should go and these decals are no longer available. Mine is showing some wear so I'm not too inclined to keep it but have considered just keeping the "40" to completely confuse folks and put the side marker like so. I'm planning on having the corner, front and this side marker all flash.
