As it sits now the frame rails are about 23-24" from the ground. I would like to keep it there running the 42's but we'll see.

to words for you to keep it at that height ..

Fender trimming ! :D

I should also add... I do realize putting this much time, effort, and money into a FJ-60 is completely insane and absurd. Money would have been much better spent on a more capable platform.

However, I'm stuck with her... and I like it!

Brokenparts:

Your 60 is an inspiration to many of us. IMHO, as long as you are having fun, and the spending on your 60 isn't short-changing your family, you are good to go, guy!

SWEET a FJ60 witha Dana 60 :steer:

Looks like you've got stock in jack stands.

Yeah, both are super heavy.... I can't imagine how heavy they'll be with the h1s and the pitbulls.

Jack Rice made a sweet axle caddy when he linked his front axle and also some "axle stops" so that he could quickly pull the axle out and then quickly move it right back to the exact location without re-measuring. See "Suspension Upgrades" on Suspension or look for his front axle build thread on pirate (I'm not a member so I can't search for it).

What's next, dump truck axles? You could also remove all the seats and rig up a vertical bungee harness like they have in the stadium monster trucks...

Just teasing. That looks impressive. Frightening, but impressive. Wish you had that rig back in high school, huh? All the girlies ovulating in unison upon sight of that rig...You would have cleaned up...

nope but rockwells crossed my mind...

with any luck and planning I'm hoping that the ride height will be even lower than its current state.

nope, I was just fine in my 1973 bug.:meh:

gracias Moby! I've also been reading D-lux's build up threads. How are things with you?

Good, 2000 mile road trip in the cruiser last month and none of my welds broke :hillbilly: I'm happy to see you moving forward with the axles and am looking forward to the end result. Go big wagons!

right on man, good to hear the road trip went well.

your're avatar made me chuckle...when my baby girl gets a few months older we're thinking about getting a golden retriever. Such good and loyal dogs.

Ok, baby stayed at grandma's house tonight and my step daughter spent the night with her friend after the football game so I snuck out to the garage while my wife played the "sims" on the computer... I'm still using the make it fit calculator right now. If it seems plausible I'll cut the links to a more reasonable size and plug the numbers in the "4-link calculator."

Anyway, I started the mock up of the front 4 link. The previous owner used bushings on both sides and equal length links. I plan on using bushings on one side because it sounds like it might provide better stabilty and tightness for the short time periods it'll be on the road. The other end will probably get johnny joints. From the reading I've done I'll shorten up the top links to about 70% of the lowers.
