I may have missed this, or your not understanding how they mount. So don't beat me if you already know as I may be confused or you did know, but altered it.

The dimples in the container (2 gal) mate to the recessed dimples in the black engraved handle.

When tightened it uses compression and locks the dimples together securing the unit.

It must have tension to stay tightened.

Yep, you are correct. But the cheaper mount does not allow you to tighten it down since the dimples prevent the handle from turning.

Now the higher end handles have an extra piece similar to my aluminum piece that allows the handle to tightening it down. It's hard to explain, but there is a reason why RotoPax has more than one handle mount. It seems they have improved it over time.

I would not recommend the standard mount for anyone. Spend the extra $$ on the DLX mount. See below.

Q: not being versed in RotoPax, how much fuel are you carrying in both?

These are two gallon containers so a total of 4 gallons.

I'd agree. I've got the DLX mounts that make it much simpler to tighten. Check out the video:

I did a 6 day trip in death valley an had to use all 10 extra gallons I brought with me.

I'm taking delivery of Vector EXO rack and the light bracket tomorrow. I ordered one DLX mount and one Locking version. The plan is to mount 1-2 4gallon rotopax and a trasharoo. We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to run the light bracket so the rotopax don't block the reverse lights. Also, I'd rather run the rotopax vertically (hotdog style) but then the bottom will be lower than the bottom of the tire.

Nice! How are you going to mount the Trasharoo with the rack and rotopax cans? Post up some pics of what you find that works. Interested.

Doesn't look like there would be a problem getting the Trasharoo around the rotopax: http://www.vectoroffroad.com/exo-rack-p-76.html

Klaus - what are you doing with the DS swingout? I'd like a nifty solution to carry a single or double jerry can and a set of TRED/Maxtrax on the DS.

I've got the TREDs. Can't figure out a nifty way to mount them on the spare tire side. I also don't want to mount them then cover with a trasharoo. Then everytime you need them you have to unhook/remove the trasharoo to get at the TREDs. I've found myself grabbing them a few times a day if needed, and want an easy on/off.

We'll see how our week long spring break trip goes. A roof rack might be in our future and if so can mount them up there.

My plan is to put a 3 gal gas and 2 gal water on the driver's side of the vector and put a Power tank on the passenger's side, will see next week when I get my 100 back how it all works out
