I'm going to put 2 more in there on those 2 angles parallel to the door but they arent 45's like all the others so I'm saving them until last.

Cutoff wheel and grinding disk on a 4.5" angle grinder. It gets the job done.

Damn Rudy.....I think you might have just disproven that a cut and welded cage isn't as strong as a bent cage. That thing is stout....once we get that on the trail we're gonna have to try and roll it...lol.

Yee Haw!!!

I'm not trying to roll anything this is just protection for the chance that I do roll at some time. Especially since when I did wheel it I drove it damn hard. I would rather be protected and never need it then not have it and end up rolling.

Phase 1 of the cage is done. I finished everything I can for the time being until I a) build my rear bumper and b) get some more steel. Everything I have shown so far is done to the whole cage now gussetted all the way around. I'll be showing the rear bumper at some point when I start building it probably shortly after xmas and then sho the rest of the cage buildup after that so keep an eye out.

Finally got back into the project guys thought I would let you see what I'm up to now. You can see the new rear quarter protection which I wrapped around and the tubing bent to fit the wheelwell. And the last pic shows the beginings of the back of the cage. More to come.

Next time I get it outside I will. I can't do it in my garage. Problem is the carb is at Marks being rebuilt and rolling it is a pain in th a$$.
Here are 2 pics of what I did the other night and an idea of what I am thinking about doing with my spare toss in some input on what you think. I'm still debating what to do with the spare for several reasons. Thanks

a top mount spare would make more sense to me. You can still access your junk in the trunk.

True, but that is a lot of weight up high too.

Yeah I dont like the idea of the weight being up high either especially since I have SOA in my plans down the road. I also dont like the idea of if I do roll then that point where the tire is will be the resting point for the back of the vehicle. I do like getting the spare out of the bed though and allowing me to build a box in the back on the side where the tire was before.

Take out the back seat and mount it against the backs of hte front seats.

Clem, my spare is mounted upright on the passenger side of the bed area. I think that is the least obtrusive place aside from a carrier which can easily break when wheeling tough like it appears you are building your cruiser.. are you going to Tellico? because I wanna ride shotgun on lower 2: )

My spare right now is mounted on the left side of the bed upright. My fuel cell is on the right side. But I want to build a box there for like recovery gear and tools. Thats why I was thinking about moving it up top. My other option would be on the back I guess. I'll be working on it tomorrow I think so I guess I'll just have to make an executive decision. i.e. drink a lot of    and see what happens. Been to Tellico twice riding shotty rolled once and got to drunk to get up the second time. I do plan on being at GSMTR in some capacity preferably behind the wheel. And I would like to run some good stuff like lower 2 and slick rock and peckerwood when I am there. But I make no promises.
