Had to cut the top off the bend at the fender.
Have it mounted with all bolts and high and tight.
Marked and ready to come off for final clearancing.

Looks like the grill will bolt directly to the bumper, along with the lights, so the bumper will become the crossmember.

Bolting grill to bumper is a bad idea as they flex differently (body vs frame)

Yep yep.

Here’s the crossmember. I have one light bracket done, one to go. And will do three grill brackets I think. Depends how fiddly they have to be.

Chopped an inch off the oem crossmember brackets, drilled a hole as far back as I could, and use some 1” Al angle.

Looking at the bumper, I needed to pull it out some, it was actually recessed below the lights. I have about 3/4” clearance now under the lights and at the narrower bit by the fender. I have a tiny bit of sheet metal bending on the fender and I think I can get it up a bit more and get to 5/8”. Then either paint the behind by lights etc black or fill it with pinch weld.

My aim is only to have bumper cover beside and below the grill only

For the side of the fender I’m going to drill out the rivets used for the pinch weld bracket and rivet in a pice of Al angle painted black and cut to fill the triangle. Probably pinch weld here too.

How’s the side fitment where the bumper meets the headlight and side fender?

Not perfect, but also not bad. I think with some bumper repositioning it’ll look ok.

The side fender will require a cosmetic piece, should be pretty easy to make.

Traced the oem center support to see how much projection there is. It’s a lot
I think maybe the center underneath bumper cover is a no go. May not integrate too well with the drop from bumper to light.

On the plus side. The lower light gap already is the right size for the included pinch weld.

Ambitious build and watching vicariously! Enjoying the creativity.

Wondering if you can pull the bumper up and forward a tad. The lines along the headlights and grill look good. That could possibly minimize and simplify the fill plates?

@grinchy does it seem like there will be enough front to back depth available (on the flat plate directly above the winch) to mount any flood/spot lights? I've seen some photos around of the Dissent bumpers that look to have space. ARB / Ironman / any full bull bar seems to have space, but it's to tell (at least for me) if these slimmer looking ones would.

Any impressions around build quality that you haven't already shared?

Looks awesome so far BTW!

Grille bracket wrapped. For future installers get the projection measurements before you take the bracket off!

With a tlc probably. On an lx maybe, but likely not. I’ll know more here pretty quick.

I’m all the way up right now. Will be playing back to front when the grille and cover are in place.

Good work! You are pioneering this install, kudos to you for creativity and tenacity. It looks good already, I'm sure it will look even better as you finish it up. Well done!

Second cut complete. No stress on the bumper cover so I can see what the final should be.

Looks like the custombumper bracket is about 1/8” out left to right. I plan to address by sliding the long side back. Measures the same, but the car knows what it wants

Otherwise it looks like the plan is good. Cut the bumper cover under the lights to 1/4” and then add pinch weld. Blend the down angle by the grill in and go to plain gap there.

After all this work, I hate to break it to you, but it looks like you installed the bumper upside down (at least based on the logo).:rimshot:

Yeah. That’s frustrating. I’m working and a 180 lift to spin the car to correct orientation.

Driveable.

Still need to wire the winch controller, order and install the pinch weld. Final trimming based on what the pinchwreld measurements are.

There is an overbite to deal with, anticipated but still annoying.

A future installer might run 3/4” or 1” spacer on the frame horns. It wouldn’t be too hard to make an adapter plate for the one Rival bracket (where the oem recovery points go). Pushing out the front would simplify the install quite a bit trimming and cosmetics wise.

The LX nose projects about an 1” more than the TlC
