Changed your mind on zinc plating too huh? On your post back in 2008 it says you don't like how harsh it looks. Change in taste or catering to a buyer?

D'oh, I forgot the 'after' shot.

Great write up Mark! I really enjoyed seeing your blue truck when i took apart the front end off that fj60 you had.
Enjoyed reading this thread form back in the day. Great looking truck you restored.

Well, you're batting 50%; maybe you should go into real estate!:flipoff2:

Wanna make another trip up to see your Aunt in June? I'm planning to attend CMCC again. Maybe this time you can get us kicked out of the campground for good.:censor:

Had some more time for the 45 today. Got the throttle cable out for blast and re-plate. Got the driver's side motor mount bracket changed out with new hardware, and the frame mount reinstalled with more button heads.

It's hard to tell from the pic, but there's new OE sheetmetal screws in the inspection plate of the splash shield.:grinpimp:

A little more time over the weekend. Got the water pump and alternator back on!:bounce:

Radiator, shroud and lower heater pipe...with correct OE restored clamps.;)

I will be pulling the fuel line to replate along with air cleaner clamps, cab clamps, and a few other silver-finished items.

Cooling system is almost done. Got the fuel line, choke and throttle cable housings, elephant ear wingnuts and the hose clamps for the vacuum 4wd system done. Got to work on the heater next.

And yes, that is an OEM cloth-wrapped fan belt. OCD 2.0 in full effect.

The fuel line, choke and throttle cables make the carb look a little dull by comparison.

Hoping to get the rig buttoned back up tomorrow. Luckily I remembered my FWD cable housing was/is badly frayed (you can see the electrical tape over part of it in the last pic) so I dug out a replacement. Interestingly, the selection of cables I have are not sheathed like the one that split. Curious. But since nothing on my dash is original to the truck, I don't know if oem would have been sheathed.

Figured I should take home a gasket kit for the FD shifter control box. Knew I had a few stashed away. If I end up not needing it, it will be available for sale.

Slowly but surely. pulled the vacuum control box out last night. I lked the looks of the one attached to the replacement cable. I opened it up and it looked good, so ai went ahead and installed it. Sure enough, my old F.D. Knob doesn't fit the replacement cable. D'oh.

Got the original cloth-wrapped hoses reconnected with the replated clamps. Bling.

I also decided to go ahead and reinstall the late FJ40 non-rear heater tubes in the rig. The last bit will be getting the two hangers that hold the heater hose off the side cover replated. Then it's time for a real exhaust system.

As you can see in the pic, the fwd cable is the correct length. The one I installed in 1993 was too long after all. Interestingly, the sheathing on the cable is clearly marked 60010, which should make it the earliest of the cables.

Confirmed. The 60010 was a non-heater cable.

I grabbed the shiniest replacement cable in the lot, installed it, only to find out NONE of my FWD knobs fit. Back to the shop, pull a rusty cable out, spend two hours hand cleaning it, and re-reinstall. D'oh

Soooo, as I'm reinstalling the vacuum tube to the one-way check valve on the firewall, I notice for the first time that my PCV hose is missing the two squeeze clamps, one at each end. I bring a box of clamps home from the shop. None of them fit.:bang: Back to the shop. Pull out the bin of OE cloth-wrapped PCV hoses and harvest two clamps right from the source.:) But what's this? There's a holddown clamp in the middle of these hoses; there wasn't one on mine. Totally missed that.

I think I'm going to have to update the pics on my service page when I'm done. Unless the ones from @cppilot are better!:D

And yes, I have replated manifold clamps and hardware waiting for the next go around. Right now, I'm just looking forward to buttoning up the cooling system once and for all.
