I highly recommend the Testors model paints for this, and suggest leaving the cap off for ~15 minutes. The small amount of paint stuck to the bottom of the cap usually thickens up a bit in that amount of time, making detail work such as the lettering much easier.

That requires going to a store, haha. Gave it a go with what I had laying around. I’ll likely go that way the next time I have to do it or acrylic paint.
Good to see your anal retentive tendencies starting to unfurl themselves a bit more on the 40.
Ha! I’ve been holding out as much as I could, then I started polishing the truck and painting little things that needed love. Even went nuts on my compressor from @Trail Rated

Nice write-up! Enjoyed the read! Really cool you’re out making long trips in the 40. Hoping to do the same one day!
Thanks, I'm trying to figure out how to keep doing it and go further, but finding the right work makes it difficult to support it.

Wow. Great thread. Love seeing a 40 get run like it’s meant to.
Your mustard 40 has been an inspiration while I sort this one out!

Thanksgiving turned out very different than expected. I'd been hunting for a new truck for work and it came in so I had to fly out to Maryland to pick up. It's a '22 Ram 3500 Laramie. Absolutely the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, I'm in awe with it. Pick-up/purchase worked out perfectly, spent time with friends and family then loaded up and headed West with some loads. Best part was picking up @jaredmcginness new 40. Klaus' family put me up for the night in Missouri and gave me a tour of his entire compound. Getting back West went great until I-80 shut down at Laramie and I had to divert south to get to Salt Lake/Idaho. Upside - I got to enjoy Laramie and a concert for the night. Met some good folks there. Last but not least - @Rockymtnreaper appeared on his way through with his new truck.....to say we have similar taste is an understatement.

Suppose now I have no excuse to yank the the motor now in the 40...

That's very nice looking. Mine look like two drunk people got in a fight while painting it... any tips on how to make it as nice as yours?
Well I was stubborn and didn't want to spend money so I cut a cotton swab and used the rigid part to tap paint on very lightly. The sharpie oil-based paint is too runny to do it with the pen on those letters (for me at least).

Thanks for the lovely picture, that's Red Mountain right? Your swap looked great in your 80!

Sure enough. Red Mountain. Following a mustard 40 with that backdrop can’t be beat.

Thanks! Just picked up a 73 and coming up with a plan of attack on its swap right now. 😁

You know, that's how it started for me behind @roma042987. What swap??

It has a worn out carb’d 350 and nv4500 in it now, so some flavor of fuel injected GM V8. Unlike the 80, I’ll make a little thread for it for sure.

Those fender flares are a great excuse to replace the 1/4 panels and cut them for flipping the rear springs at the same time

I prefer keeping it true to its form, it works great and performs exactly how I want it to. Aside from the 12ht and front discs....I think the truck is perfect as-is.

What size/brand tires you have on your rig and are you happy with them?

What did you end up putting on the 40 for tires/tire size with the 4" lift?
