Whats the easiest and safest way to remove the AC vents? Would like to get mine cleaned and painted black.

I turned them inwards 90deg and tried to gently pull them out, but didn't want to take a chance and then break the dash face, so stopped. I am sure a little more pull and they'd pop out, but wanted to make sure thats how to do it.

Cheers

I think you need to remove the guage panel. they are connected to it in the back. 2 nuts hold the vent assemblies in place.

little click tabs at three points on the back side of the outside of the ball- I had to pull them from behind. maybe I missed the trick, but there is a step flange on the socket. I'm looking at my old cracked dash right now...phone is 62' away...

edit- three pups is on it. 2 screws each on the back side...

three click tabs is for the outboard vents...bottom line, they come out from behind...

They can gently be removed...but you can also damage the plastic surround if you're not very careful.

I removed mine and installed closing vents like the outside vents, but cracked the plastic surround putting the new vents in.

I decided I liked the stock ones better, so I swapped them back out with the dash removed and installed new, non cracked surrounds at the same time.
