Removed mud flaps on a stock bumper

Very neat idea. One of the first things I did to my cruiser was to pull off the bent and twisted mud flaps. I cut the bumper support out of the original flap with a sharp utility knife since they were garbage. No problems going this route yet. Cost was about 20 minutes

Installation tip - Plates are shipped flat and need a little curve for a perfect fit. Use a basketball or soccer ball and hold on the edges and push the plates onto the ball for a smooth curve, worked great for me.

Just replaced broken mud flap on passenger rear and perfectly good flap on drivers rear.

Showed wife and she is happy.

1/2. Took less than 20 minutes both sides. Very strong...dare I say better than factory.

Is the junk above my spare on a '06 VVTi the same as your '03?

I just went with a pizza spare, sets above the factory hitch

Not sure about '06 but yes, there is a large black plastic box (probably 12x10x3') with hoses running to it on the drivers side of the space above the spare. I assumed it is the EVAP canister and I would remove it if I were sure it wouldn't cause any check engine lights (no emissions testing in MI).

Also, LOL on the space saving spare, where did you find that??? Is it even an option if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere with a puncture??

The tire and rim is from Australia IIRC its was off a new HJ79 pickup, 7.00-16 about 30.50 tall. The funny part because its on a split rim it weight is way more than the factory spare.

Right now Im thinking 19ga galvanized steel (same as the original run) is the way to go, yes?

19ga is a good thickness in my opinion. Not too heavy but they withstood lots of rocks getting thrown at them with no noticeable impact craters. I actually don't know that they would even need rubber on them, I only heard rocks ping them once.
