Having stock mud flaps on a stock bumper and wheeling is a sure way to rip the rear bumper off having done it in the past. I used 20ga galvanized sheet metal, made a template, cut it out with a jig saw and bolted them on. Having run this set up in the past it has been proven solid and stood the test of time while being beat down bumpy roads. The LX is slowly starting to look a little more off road capable.

This is really a necessary mod. thanks for sharing this. I would have saved my mudflaps 2 weeks ago on my 98 if I knew I could do this. Good thing the rear bumper did not get ripped off. I need to get this done on the lx plus it looks good without the mud flaps. Your 80 and the LX is pure eye candy

I jacked mine on the Devils Racetrack at CM this last year. One side has a significant crack horizontal through most of it and the other got shaved down a bit. I guess you made the template with the removed flap? Thanks for the pics and solution.

Phil, if you do this, i'll take a set for the 100, and 200 as well. You can use my 200 as a template if need be!

Phil, I will also take a set for my 100 if you decide to make a few sets of these. Please PM me if you are interested, and thanks for your consideration.

Maybe try a sheet of hard rubber instead of the steel. It might deflect rocks with a little less noise. Just an idea.

I would be in for a pair as well.

Hard rubber could work I have no experience using it for this application so I will look to you to beta test it. I started running steel plates 10 year ago on my 99' and they have proved to be a solid performer with no issues. The plates/factory mud flap are needed to support the bumper without plates or mudflaps say goodby to your bumper.
