Weatherstrip is leaking. So I popped out the assembly and took out the glass. Used a wire wheel and 36 grit flap disk to clean up the frame. Really didn't take very long. The bottom has these little drain holes with plastic flaps, so I used extra window tint and cut it to make new flaps. I also scrapped off the old nasty tint and had some nano carbon tint put on the glass. New weatherstripping was special order from toyota. I also got new slider rubber.

I need to do the same thing. I just need to put together a parts list to rejuvenate everything. Thanks for the heads up for those flaps.

Ditto!

scraped off tint? I thought tint was not removable, can you give some more details?

Ah ok, I assumed because it was tinted it was a later year

So turns out the window frame weather strip is differe t from left to right. The other side is 62741-60040. So that's on order now. Here is where I'm at so far...
I metal etch primed n painted the bottom half if the frame since it sees the most moisture. It has a lot of fish eyes in the paint but who cares.

When installing the slider rubber, alignment of the top and bottom holes for the support bracket is critical. Once the rubber is fitted, carefully trim the excess, once trimmed remove slider rubber and glue the two ends with black weather strip adhesive and let dry for 20 minutes or so. The factory didn't do this and just leaves a open gap I think it allows more moisture into the track. Then install the slider rubber for the final time. It will seem like it doesn't fully seat in the track, once the glass is in it pretty much seats itself, just get it close b4 installing glass.

This little felt piece goes over the top of the slider rubber before the support piece. Once it's in place install the support bracket and a screw on one side only, and only very loosely. I put some anti seize on the threads of the screw. The frame will flex just enough to get the support piece in it.

The slider rubber has a cutout for the clip bracket that is on the edge. Cut off the skinny overlap piece. The bracket on the other side in the center has no cutout. Cut a slit with a razor blade, do this on initial fitting of the rubber. Sorry this step is out of order.

That's all I've done so far. Glass is in and windows slide great. Still waiting on outer rubber.

What outter rubbber are you waiting for?
Also, which is # is the left side rubber?

Nice! How much were the parts?

Window film is best removed with steam, I asked the shop when I had my sun strip installed. YouTube is your friend on this one. I’ve had window refurbishment on my radar for a while now. Debating on going for the 30 dollar Walmart model. The issue is the adhesive, makes for a
real pain to scrape off w/o steam.

How did the scraping go white stripe? Frame looks good

I’m goin to be polishing the outside glass with some compound to get out the water stains too.

My model has film, I wasn’t aware some came with the actual glass tinted. Wonder if I should just hunt for a new set of glass...

62742 is left outer seal. I'm waiting for the right outer.

I get a discount on Toyota parts, so about 300 for me I think. I ordered some other stuff in the same order so hard to keep track.

Having the glass removed made it leaps and bounds easier. I spent about 20 minutes per pane and used a heat gun to warm it up and changed razor blades about 4 times per pane. Their is no way I would attempt it in the cruiser. Especially how easy it is to remove the glass. The quarter windows take about 5 minutes to pop out if u know your stuff, if you don't it will maybe take 30 minutes. I also found some rust under the weatherstripping so I treated that at the same time.

Outer weathersripping arrived, first lay it out over the top and check to make sure the cutout for the window clip bracket is on the correct side. Also make sure the drain holes where the flaps are line up.

So the outer weathersripping is tough to get right. Use a bunch of silicone spray before proceeding. Once the outer weathersripping is installed correctly it holds the inner slider weatherstripping in place. Put the weatherstrip on top of the frame and work it into the frame which is the easy part. Once it's over the frame, you have to do the hardest and most important process-both sides of the outer weathersripping have lips that need to go over the outer edge of the frame and sit in between the inner edge of the frame but not over the top of the side of the slider rubber. I used a pair of 90 degree picks to carefully work the rubber edge over the frame and a pocket flat head screwdriver to tuck it between the frame and slider rubber. Opening the windows different amounts can help as well as a flashlight. Careful not to scratch the window tint. The hardest part of the lip is the corners and the section where the two windows overlap, the pick was able to work it in though. If you have arthritis this part would be almost impossible, it's hard on the hands. Once done with that, double check the lip on both sides with a flashlight and make sure u didn't miss any part. Then lube the outer edge with silicone spray and install the window into the body using the rope method. Lots of videos on YouTube of installing automotive windows with a rope. I used sheathed 12 gauge speaker wire because the sheathing is easier on the headliner material.

Once it's in the body run your pocket screwdriver along the outside lip so it lays over the body nicely. On the inside of the truck use your hands to push down the weatherstrip firmly onto the body lip as some parts might not be all the way in. Then clean the window and stare at it. The next one will be easier.

I was surprised how badly corroded the frame was ; but guess with sand/salt/water and lots of years take their toll

did one side and have the other side to do. Amount of dirt thats held in their is amazing. Worth a cleanout as part of a maintenance cycle for anyone as frame gets corroded

How did you remove that little black trim piece that sits under the window? I can't seem to slide mine off but it looks white/dirty under there. Thought about just using silicone under the clips from the inside since I've read the old gaskets fail and it's a common leak point. Also, is there a drainage system for the rear window? I need to take this on too as mine don't slide too easily and the weatherstripping looks like it is not sitting correctly.

That trim is easy to remove, the end caps slide straight out. Then the trim slides off, u need to open the rear door to give it space to slide if I recall. From what I see it's the weatherstrip that leaks typically.

I'm seriously struggling with this. Looks like the sliding runs I have are way too big. How much cutting if anyis nvolved in this job?
