Redid my tint and found a very close match...

Look at the very beginning of this thread. Llumar is not a very good match at all.

I actually ordered some suntek HP40 bronze on a recommendation from a local installer. I found it online, precut for the front windows and shipped to me for $35 or so. It hasn't arrived yet, but I figured it was worth a try. I called probably 10 places, only found one that actually had the viper ceramic 30 and he wasn't interested in cutting and shipping it to me.

Wonder if anyone has every used the Suntek HP bronze?

The 98-02 tint is in the glass, no way to remove. You'll have to buy all new windows. When by back window was shot out, I told SafeLite it was a 2006. So my back window is black, rest is chrome.

Through 03. In 2004 they changed to black.

I have been talking to my tint guy here in Portland about getting the Viper. I am here right now getting the wife's GX front windows matched and he told me that he ordered a roll of Viper for me. Hoping it will show up before Christmas, and they seem very open to cutting and shipping pieces for all of you that can't get the stuff. I will keep you posted, but it is looking promising!

Is there a way to tint the rear windows on a 98-02 to look black from the outside? I'd rather not deal with trying to match the strange dated OEM tinting.

Limo tint on the back will definitely help...it is not a perfect fix. I installed charcoal 20% in the back and 35% in the front. On cloudy days and in a few other unique lighting circumstances, the match looks extremely good. In direct sunlight...not so much, but I think many would say the same about even the best bronze tints that attempt to match the color. I think that my real problem is due to the chrome/mirror/reflective nature of the OEM tint, not necessarily the color.

I obviously could have gone with 5% in the back rather than 20%. The OEM rear tint measured at 24% (presumably making me 4.8% now). It looks black (with a chrome/mirrored finish). I don't think you can see in at all, ever, and I certainly don't have trouble seeing out in the day. Personally, I've yet to be bothered by it at night, but I don't drive much at night or have kids watching DVDs in the dark. I've also lived in Las Vegas and been trained to believe that limo is the only rear tint that provides adequate protection. 4.8% sounded dark enough to me and I had some safety concerns about 5%x24%=1.2%. Other posters (and my installation shop) provided the same caution. I would definitely give consideration to 5% if I had to do it over again, but more-so because I don't like so much sun in the car, not because I really think it will help the tint match.

Please let Me know if you get this sorted out, I'd love enough material to do the two front windows.

For what it's worth, the Suntex HP 40 bronze is a terrible match!

Just an update....I have working a ton since the holidays and now we are getting ready to move, but found time o run by the tint shop today. Viper roll never arrived, so they are calling to track it down this week and hopefully get it expedited. Haven't forgotten about you guys. How many folks would be interested in precut 2-front window pairs mailed to them for install at a local shop?

I'm out. Found a shop while I was in atlanta that did it for me. It's shops but not perfect match. In some lighting it looks great and in others not so much. That said i thinks it's the best option by a large margin!

I am definitely in, as long as the price is right. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I think you can limo tint it. AATLAS1X and SanDiegoCruiser somehow have black window tints.

If u guys read through this thread you can see some decent options for getting the windows black shaded. The problem in most cases was that it took a very dark tint to overcome the factory mirrored bronze. Some folks didn't mind it too much but the general consensus was that the viper ceramic was by far the closest match, with the only drawback being it is not quite dark enough. There's some great before and after pics of the various options though.

I am in as well.....

Looks good Fireball, is that the Viper Ceramic mentioned earlier in the thread?

I've got a shop fairly local to me that offers the Viper Ceramic bronze, I just need to come up with the cash...
