So the monstaliner got in a couple days ago and i already started getting everything prepped for the roll on.

took the lower valence off to hammer it back into shape after a stick bent the hell out of it sometime before GSMTR

taped off the body line and the door handles and started scuffing up the body with a power sander

it surprising didn't take too long to get it all scuffed up and get it ready to be lined. I primed over all the exposed metal before rolling as per the instructions.

first coat went on super easy but it was super messy

I ended up taking off the gold sombrero from the back without the hopes of putting it back on. The big LAND CRUISER emblem is going back on with some hefty double sided tape so hopefully that will last for a long time.

after the second coat and the reroll was done on the whole truck I removed the tape. Tape came off easily and left a nice crisp line.

the color isn't perfectly color matched but turned out looking really good. It is actually darker than it looks in the pictures though.

looks much better with no blue tape covering up the fender flare holes like it has been for the last months.

I welded all the fender flare holes and while I was at it got the factory roof rack and spoiler holes at the same time. Got the monstaliner up on the roof as well.

Bumpers and all the other crap I took off will be put back on tomorrow when the monstaliner is much more "cured" but so far i'm happy with it.

That red on red looks amazing. Nice job!

The color match looks great! How much texture did you shoot for, and how close did you come to your desired texture?

Man - shots like this really motivate me to get my shhhh together and monstaline the rig. Looks AWESOME!

Thanks. I liked the idea of color matching much more than just going with black.

I got it right where I wanted it. It's a medium texture. i didn't want it super rough.

Do it! It just takes a couple days to have a truck with a whole new skin. Super easy too if you follow the directions well.

Yesterday I lightly sprayed the Monstaliner with water and started to put all the bumpers and lights back on. I am really happy with how everything turned out.

I cut the sliders off so I could roll the rocker as well and i don't plan on putting them back on. I'm going to make some new ones later on down the road and will just have to play it safe on the trails until they are made.

I will put the long plastic Land cruiser emblem on after I know the monstaliner is cured fully (7 days). I don't want to mess the monstaliner up if the double sided tape doesn't stay on.

Here is a close up of the texture. It is like an orange peel instead of super rough like sandpaper like most other Berliners. It is exactly what i was going for. It looks great and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to line their truck.

Always entertaining to read your posts...looking forward to seeing what you do for sliders!

Thanks! I like the look of white knuckles sliders so I'll probably end up making some that look and mount similar to those. I just need to buy some metal and find time to make them

Looks great Aidan! As an 80 owner, I am truly digging your build!

Just wanted to say I appreciate your monstaline pics. I'm begging to prepare to paint mine here in the next few months, and have decided to try to stick close to my stock maroon color. I liked being able to see all the color samples up next to your pain, helps me alot!

Just note that the colors always looks different in real life than how they appear in the pictures. I'm pretty confident that the color blood bath matches closest to the stock maroon but I'm pretty sure monstaliner will send you a couple free paint squares of your color choice for you to make sure.

Yeah, thanks. I ordered the chips yesterday to be sure to get an in person look at them. Also I originally planned to do a two tone green/desert type job, but then I'd have to really get into the truck to repaint all the visible stock maroon, as the mismatched of the old and new paint would drive me, and more importantly the :princess:, crazy. Thanks!

Installed an ebay snorkel on the 80 yesterday. It was pretty straight forward and since I'd installed one on a 62 before I had an idea of what the steps were already. Took 2 hours to get it all tightened up.

The template was pretty crappy. A few of the holes didn't line up and it didn't seem like the template was even cut correctly to fit up to the top/side of the fender. I ended up pretty much tossing it and measuring a bunch of stuff, but it ended up fitting really well.

Used some double sided tape to stick the a pillar bracket and drilled some big holes for some M6 stainless nutserts because i didn't want to use the rivets provided.

Bracket installed with some allen head bolts dipped in some silicon sealant to prevent any leaking.

All the nuts went on pretty easily but the last 2 that are really close to the passenger door. I had to use this double sided tape technique to get them to engage to the studs but a half turn.

Put some silicon sealant in the rubber tube and tightened it onto the plastic snorkel tube as well as the air filter with the tube clamps.

Installed and ready for some deep water.

So what was the first thing I did when I was done... I took it to a concrete ramp to see how much more flex it added.

Flex for dayz

Needless to say it didn't add any flex, but man do I feel cool driving around with this piece of plastic stuck to the side of my 80 now :smokin:

Thanks your for you posts. I now know what to do with my burgundy FZJ-80. I have been trying to figure out what to do with the bad paint I have and don't want to spend 4-6K on a traditional paint job. Thanks for posting what I hope someday my truck will look like. Keep up the good work and please keep posting.
