reconstruction not restoration

Well, after my last surgery on my back I'm feeling alot better and able to do alot more. Time to get busy on my rigg. Thanks to my step dad (dbenke) and fellow club member (greenseaman) we got alot done yesterday.

Got the motor off the trailer with help from my grandfather's tractor and hooked up to the motor stand.
got the motor pressure washed and scrubbed. De greased everything and got a coat of paint on it. This is not a restoration so I'm not looking for factory finish but it did come out really good considering we painted it on the stand outside.

David pulled the side cover, valve cover, and oil pan to do a second check. The motor is really clean. It only had 60k on it when it was pulled (40 was wrecked) so it is basically a new motor. The only sign of any wear was a grove on the cam where the old style fuel pump rides. It has the arm that is made up of 3 piecs pressed together and it wore some groves inthe cam. Were going to see how it works and go from there. Worse case senario I'll get a block off plate an thow an electric fuel pump on it. I already had alot of parts off my other motor prepped so we just need to do a little more cleaning and start putting her back together

In case anyone is wondering, the valve cover is getting pulled off and painted a different color and the distributor is going bye bye and being replaced with the DUI distributor off my other motor.

Good job man... Looks great. Cant wait till i get mine back on the road...

Like your rig! Please ditch the 4-blade metal fan for a 6-blade plastic.

I thought about doing the fan but wasn't sure it would fit the f motor. I thought it would only work with the newer fan clutch.

The 6-blade will bolt right up with a spacer(factory) the 7-blade uses the fan clutch.

Got a few more pieces together. As soon as we pick up the cherry picker we'll transition to that and get the rear main seal in and get the tranny and transfer case all put on(with new fluid). As soon as we get them on there well drop her in. The inside of the motor was really clean. The only think that drew any attention are some groves on the cam from the fuel pump but it doesn't look like it will cause any problems. Now if we can get by the guys house to get the picker we should be able to get her back together pretty soon. Were going to wait to get it in the truck to put in the DUI and the carb but everything else is going in together. Trying to keep some of the smaller stuff from getting banged up.

Got some small stuff done on the 62 also. The chrome was screwed on the grill so I painted it all black and sanded the Toyota emblem with some fine grit to give it a satin finish.

It's Marshall's fault!

SWEET!
My 79 is a basket case, but I love the freedom to make it better than it was originally as you have done here.
Thank-you for the insipation
Alan

Wow, nice work.

I am in SC, too -- near Bluffton.
