Would anyone be willing to elaberate on Dropping the headliner on a 94, I checked the FSM I have and it seems to have little info. I want to get into the rear left hand corner and also view the flat spot just left of center.

Does left of center, mean passenger side?

Thanks for help with such a Duh question.

Steven

Steven,

Left of center means driver side on a left hand drive vehicle.

The one for my 93 was $28.56

OK, I'll bite. This usually means an Oak one for my '97 will be about $200. So how much?

(Oh yea, post up the p/n so we can shop around at all those 25% discount dealers I keep hearing about.

Or "Left of Center" could refer to a song by Suzanne Vega, but probably not in this case. :D

Any idea/hints on taking down the cloth headliners on the drivers side rear corner. The FSM was not much help here. I am attempting a headliner search to see what I can find.
:flipoff2:
Steven

I was pushing all up on the passenger side of the headliner looking for the flat spot the other night.

Okay I have searched the forum, I could only go back a year. I found all sorts by Tyler and E9999 posts but they were working on a 97. I could find no info on a dropdown 1994 headliner.
And the FSM I have does not address the headliner . I just want to gain access to the drivers side rear so I can get to the wiring that is up there for the rear lamp, and to find the flat spot to figure out how to Mod it.
I know most everyone is asleep right now, so no complaining here. Maybe someone will know during the waking hours.

Oak is not available for the 95-97 vehicles. It has been replaced by grey.

81240-32020-B6, list $32.61, net $24.46

In addition, sable is also replaced by grey in 91-94.

81240-95704-B1, list $38.07, net $28.56

The suspended headliner is very difficult to drop and VERY easy to damage.

A new one is ONLY $1,225.07 so approach it with EXTREME caution. The pinch-weld mouldings need to be removed, this will expose a plastic "lip" that is sewn into the fabric that then hooks over the edge of the pinchweld. There are also some little black metal clip-thingys that are spaced periodically. It is also glued in some spots. The plastic rails will be very brittle and will break easily if too much pressure is applied.

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT attempt this in cold weather, you will break stuff left-and-right.

Wait for warm weather (+80 should do it) or work on the vehicle in a heated space AFTER it has also warmed up. The hotter, the better.

Steven,

 If your old Cruiser is still in the salvage yard maybe they would let you practice on it before you go after the new one.

Thanks Dan :flipoff2:
This is what I was looking for. I read about the prices for these on e9999's post's I believe. So proceeding with caution and as much advise as I can gather.
I have a heated garage :D (+80 should do it) Not up here outside of Fairbanks.
Goin to bed

You would of course.

Did that stain come out of the driver's seat cushion? You know, the one from last Sunday?

Well Dan
You were on the money, I did this last night and with the advise from here it went without a hitch, Garage heater all the way up, Took my time on the headliner and it came off just like you said.
The little flat spot is perfect sized for the OEM light, cut it with the cut off wheels which were sugested in another thread and they worked great. Some self tapping screws and reassembly. :bounce:
One interesting note, the light works only with the back door, not the 4 passenger doors. Plus regular on and off of course.
Thanks for all the advise everyone, you guys were great, the beer is on me if we ever meet.
Oh, now I am really out of parts for projects, what to do, what to do

Steven

Do the regular interior lights come on when the back hatch is opened? Mine do not, and I assumed they used to but that my rear switch went bad. Now, I'm wondering if they never came on by design.

Refresh my memory, is this "flat" spot near the centline of the vehicle or off to one side? I bought the light eight months ago but need to find time to install the little bugger!
