Has anyone ever tested or broken any of the tie-down rings in the back?
I'm curious just how strong they are.
Are they cheap castings or seriously strong forgings?
I'm thinking about starting to bring my (SCUBA) air tank along on trails because it's SO much faster to inflate than even my dual ARB compressor. Problem is, those tanks are heavy and I don't want to screw mount anything permanent in the back for it. AND I don't want it loose in the back on trails.

Hey MUDers any thoughts, ideas??

I used them to tie down my spare tire in the back, the threads directly I to steel bracket that's pressed. I occasionally would catch a few inched of air and stretch the strap and the tire would move a bit. The tie downs were fine. I will grab a picture once Jimmy John's delivers, and you can make a more educated decision

My spare is 90#s

The back two hooks are directly fastened to the floor via a bracket. The front two are mounted through the seats.

Thanks! That's exactly the type of answer I was looking for!

Just don't forget to flick the straps after tying it down and comment about how that's not going anywhere...

At least it's a subdued color to not stand out... 🤣

Just saw this on the Foxnews (don't judge me... or... do judge me!) site: Bear and bulletproof travel trailer is ready for the roughest stuff - https://www.foxnews.com/auto/bear-bulletproof-travel-trailer-ready-roughest-stuff
This thing is AWESOME!!
An adventure trailer with self-defense features and can be had with bullet proofing!
I like that it has a Geiger counter...... inside the trailer. I guess you'll know when you are getting cooked?

My preferred way to bear proof my campsite is still to cook away from the tent and to keep the treats in a canister, far far away from my bed ;P

In bear country, we always use a spray bottle with ammonia. We keep all our foods in the vehicle and spry the ammonia around all the edges of the doors and vents.
Never had a bear issue.

Cool, never tried that before, all of my experience in bear country has involved backpacking rather than car camping, so that's good to know and way more convenient than what we have been doing.

We've been using ammonia for over 30 years while tail-gate camping in the Sierra's and as mentioned above never had a bear issue. One of our family members did leave a birthday cake in their van overnight on their campsite with the passenger window cracked. The bear pulled and broke out the window, then climbed in and ate the entire cake! Along with trashing the interior. That family member did NOT use ammonia.
I should also qualify that we've never tried to test if this works with leaving a small ice chest with something odorous like pepperoni, raw fish or (?) and then spray it down with ammonia, leave it outside overnight to see if it works.
Below are a couple of links I found about using ammonia or even bleach. Although I don't recommend bleach for the obvious reasons of staining, but the nice thing about ammonia is it can also be used to clean your windows!

Also, an interesting note to any novice overlanders and tailgate campers, if you're in an established campsite (you know, numbered site, toilets, water, fire rings, camp host), established campsites often times have bears that live near and will feed off their trash or what they find in campsites. Those such bears can and do know what coolers look like in a vehicle and will assume there will be food in them. They will tear a door open to get to it. So another trick we always use is taking beach towels, blankets or whatever and drape them over the fridge/cooler in a way so it doesn't look like something with food in it.
But you say, "I have dark window tinting." I still wouldn't trust that.

Came across this excellent Youtube that compares the driveline system of both the 2023 base 5th Gen 4R and 2023 GX460 (in Nori Green 😍)
For all of you who wonder how the whole 4hi, 4lo, AT and center diff lock operate along with when and how to use that tech, this will set you straight. Very informative.

I love the TFL guys

New issue:
Pulled out of my driveway today and my backup camera worked find.
Went to a store, backed out from a parking spot and nothing.
The display that's playing Bluetooth from my phone did not change to the camera view. I tried it a bunch of times (shifting from various positions to reverse, over and over) throughout the rest of the day.
Nothing.
Looked at the camera and giggled it a little. Note: I have the camera relocated on my spare tire swing-out.
Nothing.
If it were wiring, I would've expected to have some spotty, fuzzy, broken up display, but it's like there isn't even a backup for reverse!

Has anyone had this issue, any suggestions?

Bump...
Anyone here of this happening?

Stopped working a few times on the 4Runner last year and hasn't glitched since.

Dumb pedantic question, have you tried pulling the battery cable long enough for everything to fully lose power, like 20 - 30 minutes, and put the battery cable back on and check issue.

Just in case a microprocessor isn't chasing its tail somewhere.

Good idea!
I was fussing around with the OBDLink dongle, removing and inserting a couple of times and connecting to my phone.
I'll give that a try!
