Well done! Looks great. Got to admire the old Ford out in front of the truck too. What
year and model is that?

Thanks, Glad to be finishing up on the cruiser. Seems like body work is never ending. The Older car is a 70 torino GT. It's a 429 ci big block with c6 auto column shift and front bench seat. My 3rd vehicle is a 63 galaxie 2 door fastback with a 390.

You have most excellent taste in vehicles!! 429 Torino is one of my favourite all time, not to mention the 63 Galaxie.
I ran a 69 351W for years in my FJ40, due to the unfortunate demise of the body. I just did a full rear quarter on my
BJ74, inspiration to do it, due in no small part to watching you do this truck. No more go fast cars for me, I sold my last
69 Mustang after putting in a T5 and realizing that 96 mph in 5th below 2000RPM was going to get my car seized here now.
Not like the old days, I could talk myself out of one of those tickets.
I'm glad you repaired this one, good job. J

I'm glad I could be some inspiration. It's a ton of work but literally saved thousands of dollars in repair bills. But if you're like me you like the satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing it's done right. I know what you mean about the speeding tickets. the land cruiser sure has helped me in that regard. You really have to try hard to speed in Land Cruiser. Unlike other vehicles where I just got road hypnosis and suddenly I'm like 10 mph over.

When I want to show off I take this one...

What a great job. Want to do mine?!? Kidding.

What did you use for paint and gun? I am thinking of painting mine myself in my home Garage (I know I know, but it may have to be).

If it's attached to your house ...your gonna get chemical smells seeping into the house:worms:

I just used a cheap set of ATD hvlp guns from an automotive supply store. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tools-6900-9-Piece-HVLP-Spray/dp/B000M61KKG/?tag=ihco-20

Paint. I went cheap. Wanda brand. As in Wanda what it's gonna look like! But it came out good. Just don't get their sealer...wanda sealer sucks big time goes on like sand paper. Clear I used Nasons on the 63 and 5star xtreme 5185 on the cruiser. For primer I used 2k high build and on the cruiser high teck high solids primer.

I will admit I used ppg to do the door jambs and around the doors. It came out smooth as butter but at 135.00 quart and over 500.00 for a gallon it was just too expensive.

Very nice! I think I may have seen you a time or two. Maybe on 250 near Ivy/Crozet??

You should show her off at CMCC in July.

I registered for CMCC so I will be there!

Nice repair work g-man ! Wish I had your mechanical ability & talents !
I've got a red 85 FJ that needs rear quarter panels & dog-leg arches too !
Where would I be able to acquire panels sets ?
Used body parts up my way (NY) are usually as rusted or worse than mine...
Contacted that Canadian chap for panel pricing but shppg was crazy !
Anyways, if u get real bored & need to hire on for another 'identical' job... Pls contact me !!

I had the quarter panel and dog leg cut from a donor vehicle. Search the classifieds "parting out" section. Find someone with a decent quarter panel and have them cut it out and ship. My guess is that it will be stronger metal than aftermarket panels and have all the metal you need. Ask them to cut it a little bit wider than what you want. Look to the southwest ...ie NM, Arizona etc. Very little humidity = no rust. Mine was shipped via greyhound bus. $200.00 shipping from Idaho to Virginia.

Was this from Wolf parts? Their reproduction 60 dogleg and quarter look good

Trickiest part of the quarter panel install is the foot on the C post that you can't see. It is wedged in between the other metals and your going to have to figure out how much you need to cut off your vehicle or pull out of the donor quarter. Then figure out how to tie the three layers of sheet metal together ...i used body bolts vs welding upside down under the truck. Another thing we used to help was a small bit that cuts the spot welds out. It's like really brittle but hard tiny hole saw about 3/8 inch with a guide bit. You drill through the center of the spot weld (an I'm talking about the spot welds along the bottom ie pinch welds) and you only cut the outside metal with the hole saw part. Now you have a small hole to spot weld into while attaching to your truck. Careful if you get one they are not cheap and can break if your torque them at all. looks like this:

I used the wolf ones last go around. They were pretty bland on shape. But did it.

This go around I used a finger patch, bent to shape and filled with fibreglass bond o to shape. All the attention in the world and it's going to rust again and again...

So my thoughts are keep fixing it, but don't sweat it.
