@SNLC can you please post a few close up pics of how you tackled the crossmember/control arm bracket interference dilemma.

Remember I had @Delta VS build me radius arms to my specs, 1.5” shorter than stock. That was due to the crossmember. I also cut out the back of the factory frame side radius arm mount and boxed it back in to suit this build.

Cheers

ok so you didnt have to actually modify the cross member

The owner of this truck wanted to go back to OEM wheels. So we got some of those coming. I just bought some Toyo M/T's today in a 255/85R16.

I am currently working on getting some body stuff done before moving into full on assembly.

Cheers

Nearly ready to paint and seal up.

POR15 sealer applied after digging out old factory sealer that was falling apart. Surface rust found was wire brushed out before applying.

Everything is getting POR15 + more.

Cheers

Glad that job is done....

Although I still have some paint work to do. The POR15 though is very time consuming. Four stage process, minimum.

The pics don’t do it justice, when you get a good application of POR15 it is very similar in appearance to powder coat.

Cheers

The bad part, is if you ever had to weld on the surface coated later, it is a huge pain to strip down, a lot like powder coat.

Actually, no it is not.

I have done it several times on this project and the last project. This is why paint is better than powder coat.

A die grinder and some 100grit and you got clean metal to weld on in no time. Also easy to touch it up after it or as it chips from rocks-whatever.

Cheers

The POR15 has cured nicely overnight and with my curing lamp on it.

The next stage is another big job but nowhere near as big as getting the POR15 down. I am letting the cat out of the bag now on what I am doing for high wear areas or areas prone to rock chips.

Basically I am doing what Toyota calls chip guard. This is going down on top of the POR15 after sanding and scuffing it back.

Once that is down and cured I will be going over it with the color match I had the local auto body paint supply shop mix me up.

I will be honest, I have not done this before. In the past I have used Monstaliner for this purpose. I am really not a big fan of bedliner on a truck so am looking for other options. I am pretty confident I will be happy with the results of the so called chip guard.

Cheers

I actually decide to do rubberized undercoating in the underside of the body.

Here it is painted on the firewall.

I will be painting it in the wheel wells otherwise I am leaving it black under the truck. The chip guard will go on the topside of the body.

Cheers

Two coats of the chip guard is down....

I could top coat tonight as it cures out in 90 minutes max.

So far so good but I can tell I will have to cut the taped edges with a razor blade. The 3M chip guard cures out way to fast to pull the tape wet.

Cheers

By the way here is that spot in the back I performed a rust repair. Not perfect but for a refurbish (vs resto) certainly good enough and well sealed up now.

I am very happy with the results. Like I say, this is to replace doing bedliner in areas like this on a truck.

Going to be some hours to cut all the tape off and I may do one final step to blend it (the edge that will be there once tape is cut), I will decide once the tape is off.

Cheers

I was totally wrong about the tape, this is pulling beautifully so burn the midnight oil and do it before it cures!
