Putting out feelers on 1974 FJ40 Worth

That's a nice truck and for some comparison, I purchased a 74 Hard top a few years ago, 66K original miles, from Original owner, inland California garaged truck, but with the ubiquitous fender flares, for around 12K.

The Market has changed a lot in the last few years, so I'd say if the original top and bows were there, it could be a 15K truck or more, but you'll just have to ebay it to find out....

Any documentation to prove it's really 27K miles and not 127?

Beautiful house, btw....
Thanks - I just wish it had a damn garage :)

it deserves a proper resto, I hope a mud member gets a shot at owning it.

Sell the 40 and buy an FJ60/62. They'll get you pretty much anywhere the 40 will and I find with air cond, full rear bench seat, far fewer complaints waft out of that space behind you... :princess:

I agree with you completely - that's why I'm struggling with keeping it. It needs it's dents popped out, a proper cleaning and restoration. Things I thought I could tackle when I bought it. I'd hate to sell it and have somebody chop it up.

That's funny you said that, that's exactly what I was thinking. We own a 2015 4-runner trd pro and a 2017 Tundra TRD Pro so we are really pretty set when it comes to going places a 40 will (Tundra is a little big). So it'd really just be wanting to have something old, cool, and can survive living in my backyard.

I like it. I live in Austin and have land in Bastrop but in Taiwan on business. Hopefully you still have it by the time i come back.

Thanks
Ernie

Rent a storage unit and tuck it away for protection.

None of those will last in Texas weather, especially where we live at the bottom tip of tornado alley

That thing is garbage plus your wife doesn't like it so that alone is reason enough to offload it. I will take it off your hands to save you the pain. I'll even pay the shipping to take it off your property. ;)

Beautiful cruiser, love the patina, wish you could keep it and protect it. You should be able to get 20k+ for it - some of these sub 10k numbers seem awfully low to me for an original, super low mileage, rust free cruiser (perhaps they want to buy it muwahahahaa!). Maybe it is just what I see in California - but if that mileage is right that would be amazing.

If you could get oem bows that would make it more valuable and then throw on a Trollhole top since oem isn't available and you'd be in good shape to sell for max value with little investment. And sorting out the electrical issues is important. I prefer it in the condition it is in - paint is original only once and you know no crazy bondo work has been done to it. I bet with a little elbow grease you'd be able to make that shine up nicely.

There are always ways around getting approvals for a carport/garage. Do the sheds HomeDepot and Lowes sells need permits etc.? How about building a "Gazebo" or "Pergola" that is large enough to park the Land Cruiser under?

The house we bought is an old Victorian that has been added onto through the years (side porches, additions) and the city has a rule that you can only cover 30% of the yard. Unfortunately we are over the 30% yard coverage. I can apply for a variance for $350 and then go in front of the city council in April but there is no guarantee that I'll get it.

I'd agree more with the $8,000 to $11,000 range.
Looks nice and solid.

It acquired a paint job somewhere along the way.
The hood latches and license plate bracket/lamp and wheels are painted green.
I think the mileage will be a great selling point if it can be documented somehow with service records.

are we sure its a true FST? I'm not an expert but would expect to see an eye-bolt for a door strap at either end of the face of the dash plus the interior darth vader light by the glove box? I can't see in the pics but it should also have the top frame brackets on the interior of the rear corners.

I had issues with zoning and neighborhood association rules at my old home. That is why I know live in the country on almost 10 acres!
Anyway, I looked around the neighborhood and saw that neighbors were aloud to build these monstrous jungle gyms for their kids that had forts on top and nothing was ever said about that. So, after a year of fighting to put a building in my 3/4 acre yard I built one any and called it a playhouse. I had a privacy fence and trees that hid all but about 2 feet of the roof line from the neighbors. The association was ticked, however it had cute little windows with planter, a regular door, and a garage door. When I told them it was a playhouse there was nothing they could do unless they many everyone in the neighborhood remove their kids playhouses. It worked and I got my outdoor storage. Just an idea.
