I has been a long time since I pulled the chunks on a toyota and I've actually only done it once... so i don't remember how to do it

I am pulling the chunks from a 4runner to go on my son's truck. do I just remove the nuts from the fron and it slides out? or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You will have to remove the axles first as they slide into the 3rd. But other than that yeah it just pulls out once unbolted and axles are pulled.

Front diff is a bit of a pain. If it is a parts truck then hopefully the knuckles and/or CVs have been pulled. The distance between the flange on the diff and the back of the knuckle is just enough to be annoying. The flanges have studs and you have to pull the shafts in order to get the diff out.

Like army said, rear isn't bad. Four bolts on the axle ends release them, pull shafts, unbolt diff, get a friend to help wrestle out the chunk. It is heavy and awkward so an extra set of hands will make it go much more smoothly.

What year 4Runner? Ifs or solid axle? Makes a big difference in the front.

Rear also requires disconnecting brake lines and the ebrake cable.

First step is draining the oil.

Nah, just skip that one, it will make it more interesting :D Just make sure you let your "buddy" pull the chunk...

'95 with IFS. Thanks for the tip on the brake lines

Now you tell me...

Actually, since the truck came with high miles, i drained the oil first to see how clean it was...

Ahh I was thinking solid axles since you referred to them as 3rds lol. The front diff is a lil different than a solid axle third member. You will need to pull the cv axles out and you "should" be able to pull the whole front diff as a unit. I cannot remember the body style change right around there but I know on 95.5+ Tacoma's it is a "clam shell" type of design. I believe the older ifs is similar but a lil more beefy but I haven't put my hands on one before. Just taco and solid axle stuff.
