PTO shifter 61 FJ40 003.webp
Four covers and no two are the same. Not sure why the change but they did.

the 3 and 4 speed both have threaded hole on the drivers side for a screw in stud that the shifter pivots on .straight up from the stud is where you have the hole for the shifter .if you cant find a pto stud the one from the 4x4 shifter will work but its a tad longer

When the pivot is screwed all the way in, the shifter actually fits between the two holes on the outer end of the pivot, with washers on either side and cotter pins in the holes (one cotter shown above).
I know this is a really old post, but my PTO shifter will not work in this arrangement. The shifter itself (at the pivot hole) is too wide to fit between the two stud holes and must be positioned, one side against the hexagonal nut side, and the other with a washer and cotter pin. My assembly is from a 3 speed FJ40.

Also, the members who have posted pictures of their linkage, that are still present on the forum, can you guys please update your posts, the pictures are looooongg gone. I can add pictures of mine, and the modifications required to make a 3 speed linkage work on a 4 speed, when I get it done.

Morphodite of morphodites! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

How do you even know that you have a PTO gear inside that transfer case?
I have never seen a spacer plate between the transmission case and the transfer case like that.
Or a shift tower that overhangs the top cover

It looks like there may even be a bead weld all the way around the base of the tower.

IF, and that is a BIG IF, that unit is even serviceable, your best bet would be to cut a piece of angle iron that can be held by two longer bellhousing bolts and attach your shift lever pivot to that.

I do not recognize the tranny or the bellhousing at first glance. No adapter between the two of them and *apparently* some sort of adapter between the tranny and the Toyota T/C

Anybody knows where to put the bolt for the pto shifter
There is no mounting point for the Toyota PTO shifter on this tranny. You will have to fabricate something. Using the top plate bolts seems to be the most reasonable approach.

It’s been a long hot summer in South Georgia but the weather has been on the cooler side recently so I’m going in Montina’s pto to replace the rear seal. It came apart pretty easily since it has been smothered in gear oil. Took the seal up to the local carquest and found a possible replacement and a cutout paper gasket. The seal is all rubber so will give it a try to see if it will work.View attachment 3706085

This was from when I replaced my seal on the rear output shaft. I think I just removed the four bolts and pushed out the old seal and pressed in the new one. I can’t remember the exact procedure but it was not difficult.
