My power steering pump is going through ATF like crazy so time to swap the pump - would like to swap out the hoses (even though they're not the source of the leak...) as well but finding that info a little confusing as to what hose is what.....

Did some research and tracked down cheaper alternatives for some of the the OEM hoses from @beno and cdans posts here -

PS Pump R&R : Not that hard !

Power steering pump hose

naturally i have some dumb questions......

44412-28160 is actually for a Previa and you use it as a substitute for the hose between the gear and the cooler inlet
Is this hose 2 i have marked in the picture below - do I swap this entire assembly with this single hose?
Is this the high pressure hose?

44412-04010 (late 1990's to mid-2000's Tacoma) is a cheaper alternative that fits the hose from the cooler to the reservoir. Same ID/OD--The hose works well from evidence.
Is this hose 3 i have marked?

That leaves hoses 1 and 4 for me to source...

thanks in advance....

You can use generic 1/2" hydraulic/transmission/ PS hose for 3 and 4. I'm sure you can find all these hoses at an aftermarket supplier if saving a few bucks is important.

Per your diagram:
Hose 1 is the reservoir to pump. You can source this via phhkit.com or via absolute-wits-end.com Or you can go OEM and have conniption fits.
Hose 2 is the pressure line. Toyota's line is VERY expensive. The Gates/Edelmann version is serviceable but will require a 16mm flare wrench. I went with Gates instead for my recent pump rebuild and re-hosing.
Hose 3 is cooler to reservoir return. You can go Toyota or a bit of Silglyde and some generic AT cooler hose will do the trick. I went with the hose from phhkit.com
Hose 4 is the gearbox to cooler line. Again, I went with Gates hose from phhkit.com I have some Gates AT cooler hose for eventually running a Derale cooler up front.

Toyota makes some nice hoses for sure, and for coolant lines, I would not accept aftermarket. But in this case, the Toyota juice isn't worth the financial squeeze.

Do as you see fit and what your wallet will accept. Your truck will not suddenly explode. Maybe it will leak in 10 years instead of 20 like OEM lines....

One of the companies I work for makes hydraulic hoses. When I rebuilt my power steering pump they redid all lines for me. Worked great for me, especially since they were free.

I just replaced all three low pressure lines on my '93. I just used generic hose from Rock Auto.

I'm adding a new cooler (non factory) to replace the factory set up which is rusted/leaking. Want to be sure which hoses to connect to. Large off the reservoir and then non-crimped in center of three hoses running together? Thanks!

I carry hose #1 and hose #3. For hose #4 I removed the paperclip, went with a Delare cooler and removed the hardline and went oil cooler line.

1FZ-FE Power Steering Return Hose 3/8"
1FZ-FE Power Steering Return Hose 5/8"

My system is all back together with cooler mounted on radiator passenger side. Tomorrow plan thorough engine wash and fill radiator final time if-needed, watch power steering coolant level and drive all happy again with new belts and hoses and thermostat. Had an after market HD water pump which didn't work out (impeller grind/rub when mounted) so had to re-install OEM which actually was really clean and smooth anyway. Used transmission lines rated for 450 F on all replaced P/S hose. Thanks all and enjoy 2017!

I use 3/8" generic/domestic TOC for the 2 small ones, and 5/8" for the larger one. Buy several feet of the small and 2 feet of the large from parts stores that sell in bulk. Inexpensive and available locally. Today.

I thought and read and you tubed about a pump rebuild. But I wasn't confident and it wasn't broke so I just didn't try to fix it. Little bit of whine now when parked flat and wheel cranked hard but I have 35's and that's hard on it I think. I didn't raise and do cycles then lower and do cycles like maybe I should have. Had tires on greasy fluid-soaked cardboard n smooth concrete so they turned pretty easy. Medium tension I'd guess. Does anyone know the normal PS fluid temp when warmed up? I'd like to check it and make sure the cooler is keeping up for sure.
