After following a few threads, in prep to do mine, I anticipated a 'job'....
A well deserved 'plug' : C-Dan is the man ! New PS Pump at an unbelievable price delivered to my warm little hands 2000 miles away!
Well, 3 hours later, tools cleaned up and put away.
Paper the heck out of the floor, around the smog pump,,,,every where....
to catch the drool of ps fluid that will happen....
Remove the ps pump hoses (the high pressure side has a resraining clip over by the EGR valve....loosen it too....
Few hints (worked for me)
- remove tension adjust bracket for smog pump
. . . .2 12mm head bolts 'under' PS pump bracket
- loosen nut on PS pump pully ( 19mm socket)
- loosen PS pump to bracket bolts (14mm)
- loosen / remove from pully ; V-belt
. . .NOTE the pully has a 'key' between it and the shaft, it may fall out during next step - you need the key.
- with a piece of short 2x2 (wood), tap while rotating the back of the pulley; it will slowly walk off the ps pump shaft.
- loosen the 3 14mm head bolts that hold PS pump bracket to engine
. . .you'll eventually remove them
- loosen a lot, but don't remove, nut on stud, front of engine holding PS Pump bracket
Remove the 3 bolts holding bracket to engine
You can now 'lean' the pump & mount bracket towards wheel well & remove the PS Pump mounting bolt that's almost hidden by the #1 exhaust elbow.
Remove the other two pump to bracket bolts.
Pump is now yours !
Reverse to reinstall
BUT, I did not reconnect 'return hose' , kept plug on return pipe (to resivour)
filled pump resiv to top, turned pump by hand, captured yuck in soda bottle....ran almost a qt of Auto Tranny fluid thru system....
Ummm, I do have a question : What should I do with 'old' pump ?
....sorta toying with the idea of getting a 'seal kit' and have a trail spare for whomever needs one ( it will go next to 'spare gutted smog pump' and spare oil dripping fuel pump)
Later Boys & Girls,,,,
