What FIPG does everyone perfer? I just installed the locked third with an oem paper but after my unlocked one got crushed seems like fipg is the way to go.

Whatever it is that CDan sends when you say "Hey, I need some of that gasket stuff too." :hillbilly:

I love it! Another option for those that use the paper but aren't fully confident, copper spray works really well at filling in minor voids. I've used it on HG's, header gaskets, intake gaskets, etc. I swear by it. I had a pretty uneven deck on a 450hp supra that I just sprayed with copper spray and stuck the HG on and it held for atleast 100k miles with me driving the crap out of it. I haven't used it on a diff though, but this doesn't mean I won't when I finally tear into mine. :hillbilly:

FIPG is a new term to me but i've used rtv a lot, Can i use any rtv?

The differentials are installed. The method I chose is "Paper gasket lightly coated on both sides with Toyota orange looking FIPG for cdan".

I will report back to this thread if it leaks or holds up.

A trick I use for trans gaskets works well with most paper gaskets as well. Lightly coat one side (the non-removable part side) with bearing grease. The grease helps to seal, helps to locate the gasket and helps the gasket come off easily when it's time.

Most of the time on difs I use Right Stuff RTV.

Hi, Getting ready to do this tonight ,thinking about just using black, Permatex, max oil resistant gasket maker. Anyone see a problem with this type ? Thanks, Mike

Our favorite is Permatex Gray, for best reliability bin the paper POS.

I would use it if that’s already what you have bought.

I used/use the grey Permatex in the ‘spray cheese’ cans (doesn’t turn into a 1-use item) - it’s what a buddy who does tractor/trailer mech work uses as a catch-all.

We usually use greybut Black should work

Hi, I wonder what the difference between black and grey is ? Last paper alone only held up 2years! I don't even want to use paper again.

I would refer you to the description on the package as I don’t have that info handy, or memorized. Even the red works pretty good for a lot of applications

Yeah, a little blue wouldn't hurt, probably not super neccessary but not a bad idea. Ultra black or ultra gray is fine.

Red is usually high temp, I would stick with black or gray.

I regularly go rock crawling and here is what I've found:

1) don't use the paper gasket! It tears, I lost both mine relatively quickly the first time I used them.

2) I use either Permatex Ultragrey or Toyota Red FIPG. The Toyota Red is great, but is expensive and you have to go to the dealership to get it. Permatex is everywhere.

3) definitely use blue locktight on the nuts. I've had mine loosen when they've taken hits on rocks. Since I started using locktight, I haven't had this problem.

Good luck
