You need to wheel it for another 5 years before 40’s

Could not agree more. Experience is second to none.

Edit: not to say the truck can't handle it. Darren you wouldn't jump into a lambo and set lap records, you'd start with a miata. You've got a built ass land cruiser, get some experience on hard s*** before you change anything else. 40s can wait.

What's making 40s so apecial that requires additional experience?
It's not just 40s specifically.

If someone starts wheeling with a stock truck, does a 2.5" lift and 33s, wheels, then upgrades lift/tires to 35s, etc, through the years, then they can use their skill to take advantage of 40s when they get there. Or 42s or whatever. If you skip right to the top of equipment level without the skill, the truck will be more capable than you are.

While not a problem, it's generally a better idea to grow your skill with the equipment as opposed to trying to drive a Ferrari when you're used to a fiero.

So many guys go right to super built rigs and can’t drive at all.
I’ve only been on 37’s for 3ish years and don’t feel really ready for the next step yet. And I wheeled on 35’s for like 5 years before that too.

I would have saved a lot of money if I didn't do just that 🤣🤣🤣.

I was just looking on Market Place and saw some 40s for the price I'd pay for 37s. . .so I asked the question. Thank you all for the feedback.

Sorry. Think might be the most ive ever wrote. Hopefully wont happen again.

Here's where am at after a bit of driving. Roughly 11 MPG; transfer case has a leak at one of the bolt; power steering pump seal leaks; tach/speedo don't work; pretty rough vibrations/"jumpy at 55-60mph.

Google'd 2002 Silverado 2500hd MPG and it says 10mpg city/13mpg freeway, so I guess it's about right. I've added a Cam, pistons, bigger pump, bigger injectors, and 37" tires.

I have a rebuilt transfer case with reduction gears in my garage.

I think the PS pump is leaking from when I have the hoses backwards and there was too much pressure.

I have an use guage cluster coming.

I'm not too sure about the vibrations. I think it's coming from the rear. I'm assuming uneven tire wear, unbalanced tires, and possible wrong geometry from the rear upper control arms 🤔

Other news, ive been checking prices to ship the truck to Japan. It's going to be roughly $4,100. A little cheaper than what I was expecting, but that's not included making it street legal. Japan is very anal about a few things that we don't care about in the US. I guess since I'll be living there, I'll have nothing but time to figure it out. . But on the other hand, I'm not sure if I want it there to be an exclusive Off-road truck where there isn't a lot og offroading in Okinawa. . .soooo I have an ear open for offers 😋😅

Lastly I've been looking for jobs in Okinawa. Of course there are jobs available, but I have to get paid a certain amount. Going backwards, I'm officially out the Army on 1 March 2025. I no longer work in the Army 11 Dec 2024. And Im tacking some logistics course from Oct - Nov 2024 to be a little more marketable.

I've been offered a job that doesn't care where I live, and only works ~6 months out of the yr. Some kind of nuclear reactor inspector. Training starts Dec 2024 and start working Feb through May. Pay is oookkkk, and the wife she fine with it. The downside is I wanted a job that offered SOFA status in Japan. Meaning, I'll get a driver's license though them, don't have to worry about a VISA, and other perks. But now I might have to do it the official way.

How is the new radio working out since you’ve had it for awhile? I’m flirting with a floating screen to get it up a bit higher for easier viewing, but the price of the ATOTO is hard to beat.

I like it. You will have to cut a little hole in your dash for the screws of the screen. I think it's shown in post #372

Passenger ball joint had excessive oil/grease on it at GSMTR. Wiped it off and tightened the back bolts. Looked at it again a few days ago and saw that the oil/grease was back.

We had a break I'm the weather from raining yesterday and today so I rebuilt the axle.

Asking for a friend. What grease did you use in the birf?

Had a little bit of an up and down roller-coaster the last few weeks. Was cleaning the inside of the LC and noticed the dash has a crack. Not sure if it was always there, but I feel it's new.

Had a "new to me" guage cluster in my garage for a few weeks, but been dreading replacing it because due to the radio screen, it's a pain in the ass to remove it. But did it. Now my speedo/mileage meter works (speedo is about 5-10 mph off), but still no tach. I might not have set the Dakota Digital GSS-3000 correctly.

Lastly, I saw driving to a Coffee and Rigs which was 1.5 hrs away from me. While driving, it felt like I lost fuel pressure for less than a sec 30 mins into the drive. Then it happened again 20 mins later. Then again when I hit a bump. Five mins away from the event I lost all power 🤬.

Stuck on the side of the road, i called a tow truck. After 1.5 hrs of waiting I called the tow company and they said they don't provide rides 🙄🤦🏾‍♂️. @fourtrax came to the rescue.

Two days looking over the wires, I noticed power wasn't going out to the fuel pump. Checked fuses and relays. . .no dice. I noticed my Scan Guage wasn't connecting to the PCM, so I looked under the truck remembering that the power wires connected to the starter are close to the down pipes/exhaust. Yep, I've been burning through them joints.

Gave them a quick splice, and moved them away from the exhaust with shielding. . .fired right up 😁

Went to Logan's Run this weekend. Great time as usually seeing everyone. Might be my last wheeling event before sending the LC to Japan in December. Rode passenger with @roadstr6 on the first day (had a few drinks prior), then only hit one trail the following day. Had a few good spotters to help me keep the LC's panels stayed straight.

Almost two months from the last post. Starting to wind down on mods, but had to let Trey (IG: @12thstatetrey) bless me with a few more additions before it ships to Japan next month. Had him weld on an axel truss kit from Rampt Customs; a receiver hitch for a recovery point; and some custom fender guards to complete the Aussie look 😎
