did you find a shifter boot john?!

also, i just bought a 61 fj40 and i'm pretty sure it's got an fj25 bumper on the front. one side got pushed back but it's very salvageable. anybody on here need one for a resto? i have the bracketts with it as well. the 40 i got isn't stock so a regular 40 bumper on it won't offend me.;)

I've got one, but if no one else jumps on it Georg, I'll take it. :grinpimp:

I just sent a PM to you Georg

My 61 FJ40 could us a bumper. Might even trade a gas cap for one. Georg does that 61 still have the brackets on the front of the wheel wells for the back seats? I remember that 61 going thru Ebay a couple of times. I know Jim and myself were both watching it. Price was a little high for me since I really do need another project and the distance was the killer for Jim.

wicked restore man! mad props

I thought the double arm rear seats lasted thru the 61 model year:confused: I know the large gas filler opening and intake on the side of the apron ended when Toyota used then up. I thought the rear seats didn't change until 62 since they made a change in them for the FJ40s. It's been cold and snow for the last month where I keep my cruisers. I hoping I can brave the cold long enough to check the different type of grill mesh on mine next time I'm up there. All of them are stored under tarps. Some of the tarps are getting worn out but didn't fill like cleaning of the foot of snow that was on them last time I was there.

For your gas filler I would just install one from a pre 9/72 FJ40. Just use a piece of metal to fill in the larger opening.

John

i guess i need to clarify my previous statement. the seat bracketts are missing. somebody else had installed an aftermarket rear bench seat and removed all the factory rear seat parts.

Update------ Back from another Manly Man Baja trip, Rebuilt a 1977 FJ40 4-speed tranny and transfercase, installed clutch and bolted all to the engine. VERY tight fit with the cross member that I rotated up instead of stock drooping down. Drive line clearance will be 3/8"-1/2" I might have to pull some trick's out of the sleeves so this drive train ends up as a good clean set up.

I just saw a nice red fj25 with no roll bar in town today John you would have loved it, I think you need to put some time in on this rig and be able to enjoy on a beautiful top down day like today.

So heres a bump for you and hopefully it provides some inspiration......

Leaving for another Baja Manly Man Expedition again in 3 days, our longest trip ever. Need a big booted kick in the ass, so I work on Project Old Fart when I get back, anyone got a swift kick for me? Thank's in advance, John #3

PTO flapper

Started working on the old fart a couple weeks ago, mainly doing inventory on parts cleaning them, bead blasting, sorting on what is body color and what is not. Lots of hammer and dolly work even on the small parts. Don't need to look for a PTO flap any more made one today, and front and rear licence plate brackets. I have a deadline of the end of this year to finish. John P#3

Some bent up parts are getting straighter, those tail light brackets were flat, and both bumper ends were folded in, 6 hours into the bumper so far. Don't think I'll save that t-bird. John P#3

Update......nuts and bolts and some bracketry went to the zinc plater last week, chrome parts went to the chrome plater last week, as did parts to the powder coater. Dropping off the frame tomorrow at the powder coater. Starting body work tomorrow. That bumper in the above post has been belt sanded and media blasted. John P#3

Thank's John, that answers the question about having bright or painted bolts on those parts. I'm hoping you changed or painted your steering column black? Because mine is in the pile to be body color. Also the Darth Vader light? This is a tough job to try to get right, but this FJ25 team of experts helps a lot. JP#3

Nope didn't paint the steering column. Still has factory paint. But hat isn't the factory column in the 25. I pulled it out years ago when I salvaged a early FJ40 hard top from a junk yard. Some of the missing parts included steering and rear axle. I have pulled my FF I used and put the correct centered axle in. But currently the column and 25 are about a hundred and fifty miles apart. Hope to solve that this winter. I can deal better with working in the cold than desert heat.
