Here is the thread I made where I explain the sill replacement in much more detail. Thanks @jesus888 for letting me work on Old Blue Eyes!

So Tuesday I did a thing…

Loaded up the 40 with a buncha parts, and was on the road a 4:45AM (to hopefully beat some of the heat) to head 7hrs down the road to Winter Park, FL to meet the gang at Cruiser Matt’s Off-road and leave the 40 behind for the next phase of this project…

I won’t bore you with the details of this 470 mile trip, but I will say 40s sometimes require way more focus and attention than a newer vehicle, and this one has its quirks, steering is a little loose, for one.

It took me 9 hrs to get down there and by the time I made my 3rd and last gas/bathroom stop, it was 87 degrees, outside (and inside), I realized I had left my gas cap at the previous stop, and I was spentttt but I made it, and was excited to be there.

@cruisermatt was nice enough to introduce me to his gang of misfits, and give me a tour of the shop along with talk through my gripes and what I liked about the 40 to get a game plan together.

I came away super stoked (and with an 80 he helped to procure) and I can’t wait for him to iron out the final details of this 40. He helped with my 62, and I am more than happy for him to help with this 40.

Probably shoulda taken more pictures, but I was gassed and it took me a few hours to revive myself after that drive 🤣

Oh and I knew I was gambling coming back home yesterday with 12 year old date code tires, and sure enough front right tire let go after about 250 miles, and had to get a ride the last 200 miles back… but I have new rubber waiting for me in Atlanta for this 80, so just add it to the 🥸 details of this 36 hrs…

Hoping the next updates will be coming from @cruisermatt once he fits me into the schedule!

I LOVE the 80!!!

Can't wait to see all that @cruisermatt does!! Also honored that I got a "thumbs up" from him on my work! :)

Just jumped on the Serra Toyota 25% off sale and picked up an FJ40 Upper Dash pad along with the spacers and bolts... all for $367 shipped to the door.
That's cheaper than the re-pop knockoffs... and honestly cheaper than I've ever seen. 💸💸💸

Here’s a little catch-up and some current work on the 40 @cruisermatt ’s Offroad… starting with some one-off brackets he 3d modeled and made a couple iterations to mount my Recaros… I am not sure these are final but they’re close!

Picked up an evap manifold, evap check valve, a charcoal canister, and considering moving the upper outlet of the radiator to the alternate side to clean things up a bit and make it a simpler setup…

Also replacing the brake master cylinder with an FJ62 unit to clean it up with both ports being on the same side… also to get rid of the unnecessary T...

How is that brake booster nipple installed/stay in place? Looks like you had a booster line already....what was the need?

GM booster outlet is 1/2". Toyota Booster hose is 10mm
Typically everyone else uses a stepped barb to adapt or just monkey the wrong hose into place. Usually not proper vacuum-rated hose either.
The port is a simple friction collar just like GM

more updates…
The guys at Cruiser Matt’s do some amazing work with the 3D printer…
This is the Charcoal Canister bracket… it’s designed, printed, test fit, and being laser cut 👊🏾

Steam port and radiator upper outlet are going to be welded on passenger side of radiator…
