You got the skills to do it for sure. I have always hit the easy button and bought a used one. Last one I bought was $400 with latches but without hinges. I'd probably build the next one the way prices are creeping up! I much prefer a drop down tailgate to the barn doors to use as a platform off the rear of the truck. Take a look at Samurai door hinges, they are cheap and will function just the same as the expensive toyota hinges. Since you don't have factory hinge holes already, you can make anything work.Thinking about making a drop down tailgate out of the two doors .
