Getting the 60’s A\C sorted out for SAS#7. Found a large vacuum leak in the expansion valve. Found a new expansion valve at a local Toyota dealer and installed it along with new 134A seals. Now to have it charged.
 
Well it has been awhile since I last posted.
After I fixed the expansion valve and had the A/C recharged it got nice and cold and was working for a day or so.
Pump cracked and leaked out all the Freon.
Oh well! Drove to CO without A/C to SAS#7
And she Drove like a champ.
 
Fast forward to today!
Not much to post only that I have been switching from my FJ40 to my FJ60 as my daily drivers with the occasional BMW motorcycle at times.
I swear I feel like my 40 series is so much better on gas than my 60 at times.
Anyways they are both running great!!
I also purchase a 2002 VW jetta from a friend for $500 needs a little mechanical work but it is clean and straight. May be using that as my daily from now on.
Unfortunately my 60 was hit by a Lyft driver today As it was parked out front. My neighbor had a called a Lyft for Herself and as he was arriving he hit my 60 and damaged my front bumper and drivers side bumper extension along with the front drivers side bumper bracket.
As he hit my 60 he canceled his pick up with her and drove off. She was standing there watching the whole thing. She knocked on my door told me about how it all happened and was smart enough to screen shot the guys info before it cleared out from his cancelation.
She filed an accident report with Lyft and I filed a hit and run report with my local PD. With the info she gave me and her as a witness.
Couple hours later Lyft claims dept. Called me and told me they will fix my truck and took responsibility for the accident.
Unlucky for the Lyft driver I still have a hit and run filed against him.
I didn’t want to take any chance I wouldn’t get my cruiser fixed.
So a good ending to a bad start this morning!
For me at least. If only he would of stopped and left a note or better yet asked his pick up who’s car he hit it would not be so bad for him.
Oh well you can’t fix stupid.
Last photo is to show how empty the street was and he still hit my truck! 7:42 am! Really?

Did a little work today on the 60.
Replaced my horn plate and pin. Cleaned the contacts on the horn buttons.
Frustrating to try to use your horn and it don’t work. I had clock the wheel left or right to get it to work.
Also had a low pedal feel on the brakes.
Jacked up the rear and adjusted my rear brakes now I have a nice brake pedal feel and the parking brake grabs nicely.

long over due update on the 60 series.
I had a knocking sound coming from the drivers side front wheel as I hit bumps and then it progressed to a knock as I broke.
Looked and saw that one of the bolts for the caliper backed out. I ordered 4 new bolts and replaced them all and torqued them down.
I received my new brown rear panels from @CruiserTrash today.
Installed them and they fit great.
Sure changed the look of the rear of the cruiser. I was missing one and the other was just bad.
Then just added some holiday cheer to the front of the cruiser.

You didn’t tell me about the caliper bolts! Good catch. Makes me want to go check mine now.
 
Trying to control a few leaks I have on my 60.
replacing the valve cover gasket while the cover was off I adjusted the valves. Then moved to the side cover removed that and the dizzy. Replaced the seal on the distributor and I have a new side cover replacement gasket.
Once i button that up i will need to do the timing gear cover. And the rear main seal. Just need to purchase a pressure plate and throw out bearing so i can do my clutch and install the combo transmission I have in the garage.

Well took the ole girl for the dreaded smog test today.
to our surprise it missed it by two points on HC.
Hope it is an easy fix.

That's not far off Jorge. Maybe try leaning the AF mix to around 16:1 to get those few points lowered. It looks like max safe carbureted mix is 18:1, but I wouldnt go that lean and might look at other reasons like an emission part that needs repair.

Without swapping jets the 2F Aisin carb only has adjustments for idle unfortunately. There’s some trickery you can do with the smog system and maybe bending carb linkages to move the numbers a little bit one way or the other, but those are fine adjustments and require an AF gauge and a lot of trial and error. I drive with a wideband AF gauge and it’s been pretty informative for figuring out a few things. It takes time to log the data in your head though.

I told Jorge earlier he’s within the range of statistical error there. If the weather had been different he may have passed. I vote for chucking a couple gallons of E85 in the tank and running it again.

That sounds like an easier fix than messing with the carburetor actually.

Messing with the carb is worth it, but I see it as a long term project. Install an AF gauge and drive around for 6 months looking at it. Make a tweak, watch it for another month, make another tweak, etc.
