Last of my FJ60 has been hauled away!
Off to the scrap yard.
Once gone I rolled in the my replacement to get some much needed exhaust leaks taken care of
and oil leaks.
Oil pan gasket, side cover gasket, replace o ring on dizzy and valve cover gasket. New exhaust donuts .
Started off by tackling the intake/exhaust manifold.
Seems the PO just slapped things on all bolts and screws where loose.

I have been doing lots of work on this 60 since I bought it to replace poor old Dusty!
I think I fell into the rabbit hole and doing the while I’m in here work on it. It’s Getting pricey !!
Truck was pretty neglected to say the least.
But overall it is a solid rust free truck.
It has been nice to be able to use parts that I removed from Dusty and apply them to this truck!
Also Getting it ready for my trip too the Grand Canyon to meet up with my brother who’s 80 series I was using while trying to find this replacement.
And hang out with his family and my kids.
Here are few things I have done to it without pictures
Drained front and rear ends of gear oil and replaced with new oil.
As well as the transmission and transfer case.
Dropped the oil pan and replaced the gasket.
Purchased a new water pump and gasket.
Adjusted the rear brakes and parking brake.
Going to rebuild the front knuckles and replace the rotors and calipers with the old rotors and calipers from Dusty. They only really had about 1200 miles on them.
Going to do the oil galley also.
Then get it CHP inspected and smogged and transfer Nevada title to a CA title.

Lots of great work on this! Your efforts and progress are inspiring. I am still waiting to get my engine back from the machine shop, but looking forward to progressing to the point you are at now. Your truck is looking great. Safe travels.

Thank you!

So finally buttoned up the last of the parts I needed to install.
add fluids and pressure checked the radiator for any leaks. She fired right up! Took her for spin. No more exhaust fumes in the cab and no more exhaust leak.
she runs smooth.
installed smog parts that where missing on this truck from when I bought it. Now it is off to the smog shop for a test and then DMV and get it registered.
this time I am taking it to K&H and have them do a pre test and adjust it accordingly so it may pass smog! It has been fun working on this rig and getting it back in better condition than what it was. I was lucky enough to find such a dry and rust free rig!
It also helps that I bought it off a Mud member here @Yotajeff.
Lots more to do on this rig.!
It never ends but at least I have it where it is drivable and reliable.
next on the list suspension lift, front knuckle rebuild, tie rod ends, and rear end needs to be rebuilt. Those this I can do as I go.
plus I have another project coming in that I just purchased. I’ll post when it arrives this Friday or Saturday!
Cheers

Drove the 60 to Marks Offroad in Burbank to pick up some mirror arms for my FJ40.
She drove cool the whole time in the heat and traffic.
Next week it’s off to get a smog and hopefully get her registered and get her plates.

Stopped at Peco Bill’s BBQ on Victory for a beef sandwich and parked it in the shade to enjoy my lunch.

Such a great outcome to a hard story. Redemption is the best.

So more progress on this FJ60.
yesterday I took her in for the dreaded CA smog test and she passed with flying colors!
what a relief!! All that work paid off. Now it’s off to CHP for a VIN verification and hopefully get this rig CA plated and legal.

Loaded up the motorcycle rack on the back of the 60 and headed out to Big Bear to ride some trails with my neighbor.
The 60 did great going up the grade and ran smooth and cool. No overheating! Slow for sure but that goes without saying. No work done to the rig lately since I have been concentrating on the 40 series.

Had a little to do list too take care of on the 60.
Right rear mud flap was hanging by one screw got that take care of. Painted the rear tow hitch and re installed the passenger side snake blinder which was stepped on by a passenger as they got off. Luckily no damage.
Over all truck has been running great!
Entered it into our local car show here in Culver City. No other FJ60 but mine and @Ghetto Fireman beautiful fj45 truck.
