This looks exactly like what I need, low profile and affordable! We need a Group Buy in Phoenix!

The front snagging and the lack of actual rain gutter functionality are good points. In the east coast trees are often at roof line. Hmm...

That front edge is perfect for the addition of a 1/2" hole. As someone mentioned earlier, limb risers.

The people that need them don't seem to like them. The people that love them don't seem to ever use them. Guess I'll be getting limb risers. :meh:

I will try to snap a photo of the raingutter but I don't believe it will keep the rain gutter from working at all. There is still room (albeit smaller) behind the rails for rainwater to channel out as it would normally.

Secondly. you guys need to learn to read. :) In the original post I already talked about wind noise. There has been ZERO wind noise. The key is the wind deflector and having it set back slightly from the forward edge of the roof. The closer to the front of the roof, the more noisy it can be. With other racks that lack a deflector there is lots more potential for noise.

I don't know what else to tell you. I've tried windows down, windows up, sunroof open, sunroof closed, city driving, highway driving to try to hear any increase in noise from the rack and there has been zero discernible increase in wind noise.

As for the "notch" in the front. Dunno what to say. If that's a deal breaker, you're missing out on a great rack. You may think limb risers are dumb (I do, but only because they're pointless around here) but they serve a function and are effective in areas where they make sense. A few bucks and putting aside a little ego and running some limb risers will solve any issue with tree limbs. Or, don't purchase the rack. Up to you. For purely personal reasons I'd love to be the only one that has this rack.

more questions more questions...

can the production model be ordered without the extra 1 inch height for those of us without the roof ribs?

@Box Rocket , I may have missed it, but how high does it sit above your roofline? (I need to see if I could still get in the garage with the extra inch)

Thanks!!

How much to have the TEQ logo lasered in to the side?! That sets it off for me. It's a 95 without it, 100 with it. :)

This has thrown off my financial planning for the month. definitely interested if a group buy is arranged.

Love the rack but thought it sat too tall also. Part of that is the thick cross bars. Worst case scenario you could trim down the base if you want it shorter, just follow the contour.

Any pictures of the production version that is 1" taller? I really like how low this sits and want to see if sitting 1" higher changes the look too much.

Adam,

Thanks for sharing !! This will compliment the tent I'll be getting from you quite nicely. Going off to count my pennies to see if I can get in line....

Thanks again !!

Guys I wish I could answer some of these questions but I can't speculate about whether Zach will be willing/able to make changes in height for production version. It's best to contact him directly through his website for a question like that.

@jcardona1 I don't know how you see this sitting too tall. It may have that appearance because of the rails. Most other racks do not have a rail and so all you see is the side of the platform and the feet. But this rack is lower than any other options I've seen. It could not get any tighter to the roof. There is roughly .75" of clearance at the point closest to the roof.

@bmac1996acc Mine is the only 80 series rack in existence at the moment. This was literally finished up on Saturday so there has been no time to even attempt a batch of production ones since final fitment tests are only a few days old.

Hi BoxRocket!

1) What is the coating on the aluminum? Powdercoat crinkle black? Black Anodized?
2) I know you just got it on, how are the screws secured? Locktite on all? My concern is loosening and rattling over time and what maintenance must be done.
3) I really like the look of the rack. I personally think the solid rail will improve the rain gutter effect since it makes the rain gutter effectively taller and will still force the rain to run to the front or rear to drain.
4) Any thoughts on a front cross member to act as a stop lip for equipment loaded on the roof under heavy braking conditions?
5) I like the design basis and should make shipping MUCH less expensive.
6) What is the total weight of the rack as it is shown on your truck?
7) I like the slots for adjustability and to allow easy, secure use of ratchet straps and bungee cords to hook on the rails or the cross members.
8) In order to install the eyelets like you have, does that cross member need to be removed, then a bolt slid in, then reassembled?
9) How are the side retaining clips attached? Are they just a piece of angel with a tube on the outside, or is there a lip that can grip the underside of the rain gutter? I would be concerned for slippage or bending from overtightening.
10) Does the bolt head of the gutter clips interfere with the doors?

I like it! I'm just asking for more understanding for later! I like the idea of the full side rail to allow more even pressure on the rain gutter.

:bounce::bounce: If theres a Phoenix area group buy please let me know, Im in. A rack thet replaces stack, looks this good, and is low profile enough to (probably) fit in the garage is to good to pass up

From what I can tell...
1) What is the coating on the aluminum? Powdercoat crinkle black? Black Anodized?

Powder coat crinkle black and inside slats are anodized. Or you can order raw for both (according to their site)

3) I really like the look of the rack. I personally think the solid rail will improve the rain gutter effect since it makes the rain gutter effectively taller and will still force the rain to run to the front or rear to drain.

Agreed.

5) I like the design basis and should make shipping MUCH less expensive.

Oooooh yeah!

8) In order to install the eyelets like you have, does that cross member need to be removed, then a bolt slid in, then reassembled?

If these are standard t-slots then it should fit a specific bolt head. From there HOPEFULLY they added in a notch at the very ends of both sides that allow for bolts to be dropped in and added. Needing to tear apart the rack just to install anchor bolts would be a horrible flaw in the design.

8) In order to install the eyelets like you have, does that cross member need to be removed, then a bolt slid in, then reassembled?

Uh oh, I hope they thought this part through.
