Awesome! Thanks for that little bit of info, very useful. I plan on removing the rack to redo a few of the spacers, and the RTV still leaves me doubtful as the only form of defense against moisture.

On another note, and this is for all aftermarket racks, the OEM torque specs are 29 ft/lbs if I recall correctly. Using the supplied hardware I stopped at around 20 ft/lbs, I just wasn't feeling that it needed more torque than that. Of course that is purely a seat of the pants shade tree mechanic "feeling", no data behind it. Part of my concern was the bolts, not the same as OEM, and that the little spacer was concentrating a lot of pressure to a small area of the roof.

Thoughts?

What kind of hardware did he include? Just some stainless?

29 ft lbs is rather high, more like 29 Nm which is about 22 ft lbs. I'll check the service manual when I get home, by you did the right thing by stopping at 20 ft lbs, at least till I confirm.

I promise with a non hardening sealant, giving a nice 360 degree bead around the plastic insert, and on top of the spacer where the bolt head will be, then letting it dry 24 hours... it will not leak. I always run a garden hose down each roof rail for 5 minutes to confirm. Don't worry about damaging anything, Toyota thought of that, it is just to see if the headliner starts to get damp.

The biggest thing is to adhere to the instructions on the sealant, it's important, and not being an RTV (which side note, Toyota does not use RTV, ever) it does need to be prepped differently.

As far as load on the roof from those spacers. You hit it right, they are putting a lot of weight on a very small surface area. They did it because it is far cheaper to get some washers than than build custom spacers for every vehicle.

If it was me, I'd call front runner and ask if you can buy just their 200 series roof spacers, then bolt your rack in as normal. On my difference would be those washers for a spacer that fills that entire void.

I'll confirm the factory torque specs later today.

There are two torque specs depending on if it's a rack or just the carrier.

Well... I stand corrected, @TonyP for the win.

Wow, 4th and 5th gen 4runners are at 275 in lbs (about 22 ft lbs), FJ Cruisers are at 160 in lbs (13 ft lbs), then this. I will never say Toyota is wrong, they know what they are doing, but I'm just amazed at it. I mean factory rock sliders on FJ Cruisers to the frame are only at 20 ft lbs. Goes to show how strong the 200 is, regardless of part. I would go with what Toyota says then, but stop at 29 ft lbs. Now just hope the bracket doesn't strip out, because you're pulling headliner, which isn't bad, just another thing to do.

For those of you with the shark fin issue check this out, The PRINSU How To Thread

Scroll down to post #63, he used a Yakima round bar with a Aheadset star nut, and installed the bar in the rearmost spot. This solution has other uses as well, I've been thinking about how to attach my Yakima ski mounts to the Prinsu 80/20 cross bars. The Prinsu rack has many unused slots on the side rails that Yakima bars could be attached to, allowing easy use of the Yakima clips and accessories.

If any of you try this, the Aheadset star nut can be somewhat difficult to install squarely into the round tube. There is a special tool for this that bicycle shops have, otherwise a long bolt will work to get the star nut set.

@Yossarian , that hardware looks great! nice addition.
don't know if it is entirely necessary, but I wanted to eliminate as much wind noise as possible, so I added weather stripping to the bottom of the wind dam.
Vertical Bulb Trim Seal Bulb Diameter: 0.5" Grip range: 0.039" to 0.14" | Trunk, boot, lid, hood, hatch rubber (10 Feet) - - Amazon.com
I was concerned about the weather strip rubbing on the paint, so I also got a small strip of 3M clear protectant film:
Amazon.com: 3M Clear Bra Paint Protection Bulk Film Roll 2"-by-60"-inches: Automotive
I haven't seen any issues with the weather strip yet, still need to get off my butt and add the 3M.

I did have some wind noise/vibration above 30mph. It sounded like it was coming from the fairing, so I tried opening the sunroof while moving to see if I could confirm that. When the sunroof was opened the noise/vibration disappeared. The noise/vibration would go away also when I used the sunroof's tilt mode.

My fairing was already in the lowest position on the side rails, and I was not willing to drill new mounting points as others had. The edges of the fairing were already at the forward edges of the side rails, aesthetically I didn't want it protruding beyond. I used packing tape to fill the void between the roof and the fairing, even at highway speeds no more noise/vibration.

I tried sourcing the "noise reducing edge trim" from Prinsu, but I ended up getting weather stripping from a local specialty automotive store. They had at least a dozen choices, and I was able to select what I thought would work best. So far no issues.

Yossarian, what size is the mounting hardware you used on your rack back in post 26? I think it classes up an already classy rack. I am expecting my rack to be delivered in the next week or so and would like to have all the parts ready for assembly... thanks!

Here you go, took me a while to look it all up again. I copied what another did on their rack on the Tacomaworld forum.

The screws I got at tamperproof.com
The washers I got from jegs.com, p/n ALL18663

From Zach in another post on TW, "Yes, 1/4"-20. Holes are typically only tapped to a depth of about 1.25" so plan accordingly if you are getting new hardware. 1" length works the best"

Hope that helps.

Can you give us a couple of overall vehicle shots with the rack?

Not the best quality pic, but using the rack to haul a mattress from Costco for a friend.

A little frustrating. Not only did I have issues with the rear most cross member hitting the shark fin when I first installed my Prinsu, tonight I had a bear of a time installing a Rhino Rack Foxwing awning using the Prinsu awning mount. The website claims it fits all the popular awning systems, including the Foxwing, but alas the holes were a 1/4 inch off. Spent the next hour drilling it out to make it work for my camping trip tomorrow, now the mounts are a little trashed. I also broke a bolt tightening the mount to the Prinsu cross member. Finally, while the upper of the two bolts that attach the awning gram to the mount is easily accessed and tighted, the bottom one is deep in a tight spot and near impossible to reach with a wrench to tighten. The awning mount design is such that you can't get to it. Closed in on all sides except for top and bottom. Had to tighten an eighth of a turn at a time. Sheesh.
