Hi Danny, I'm using two belts as shown below 'B' and 'C':

Unfortunately it is not working with PS because of the rad hose.
Yes I'm using a smog pump just to adjust the belt for now, No AC.

Can you use a shorter belt for blue and run ALT-WP-CR and remove the Air Pump and run green WP-CR-PS? May need a different belt for green.

I think that would allow you to miss the rad hose and you would likely no longer need the air-pump as an idler pulley.

You would also have WP covered with both belts - if one belt fails, WP still works.

A shorter belt for the ALT-WP-CR will work, however, the WP-CR-PS is a problem because the PS is stationary and as such cannot adjust the belt.

I think I might have to run PS-CR-Smog to adjust the belt and another belt for ALT-WP-CR.

Danny, What does your belt setup look like?

I'd appreciate any help to resolve this problem.

Looks to me like if you cut an inch or two out of that hose, the problem spot would move away from the belt... ?? You might be able to get away with an easy fix....

what do you think about changing the thermostat housing? Take a look at post 17 in my build thread. I did basically the same setup with the pulleys and the belts are not even close to the radiator hose. Mine is a 1980 & the angle of the the top of the thermostat housing points upward a little more so the hose never gets low enough to hit the belt. Just a thought...

I suggested a later thermostat housing also. But the cruiser doesn't gave an engine oil cooler so the fitting for the cooler would have to be plugged or you'd have to install an oil cooler and the proper water pump.

Later thermostat housing is the easiest bet. Funny, I never realized why they did that. Guess I know how :)

I have the feeling that running your alternator and your power steering pump off the same belt is a lot of load and that is a long run between the alternator and steering pump.

Toyota designed it that way.

I don't think you'll get much cooling out of that cooler assembly mounted inside the engine bay, especially if you plan to wheel it, even lightly. There is not a whole lot of airflow there and even less at crawling speeds. I was able to boil mine over with the stock cooler that runs on the cross frame piece under the bib.
It is not difficult to run a trans cooler in front of the rad and it does a good job cooling the fluid in that location, away from the engine heat.

Though I've often mused about a serpentine conversion for a 2F...:grinpimp:

I'd love a serpentine for my 2F as it would solve a lot of issues.

The factory setup is actually very trouble free......

We had to use a smog pump eliminator / idler pulley to water pump on my '74 with a '76 motor in it.

My alt and PS clear my hose. see anything helpful :

Mike,

I have two belts - longer runs ALT-PS-CR. shorter runs WP-JimIdler-CR

I have an FJ60 PS pump and a reman FJ60 alternator (from Georg)

Two things... From your first picture... If you compare your's to mine...

1. My hose (from CDan) appears to be more a 90*x90* and the top leg looks longer than your's. The 90* out and 90* up on mine allows it to easily clear the belt. And the longer leg to the rad adds more cushion.

2. Could just be the picture, but your first picture looks like the PS pulley is back (out of line) of the ALT pulley by as much as half an inch. Is that true or just the picture angle?

Here's my hose/belt - compare it to your's

Erik that looks great!! I wish mine would fit in place like yours. The main issue is the rad upper hose, which brand hose are you running?

Is the PS pulley aligned with the ALT pulley?

Nice work on yours!

Thanks. Upper Rad hose is a Gates 20450 (Autozone, I believe or else O'Reillys). Yea the PS and ALT align on the smallest & front most of the 3 engine pulleys

idler (smog eliminate) & WP are on the next pulley.
