Hello experts
I am beginning a build of a 1971 FJ40. It looks in decent shape with lots of welding to come. I am upgrading from a 3 on the tree to a 4- speed. In this process I would like to do a mini truck power steering upgrade. I will not drive this off road much and no larger than 31’s.
Who today ( I have read MANY older threads) is making a decent kit with brackets etc.
I understand there are more robust approaches but the mini truck will suit my needs.
Thankx a lot for any input.

You might want yo check out FAQ's and scroll down to p/s and tje tech links at the top of this section. Also search the internet and clicking on threads that reference this site. Or use the search function here. The problem you will run across is, your steering box and column are 1 piece. You will have to figure out how to alter your column so it can have a rag joint to accept the mini truck box, or adapt a 2 piece column from a later model 40. Other options would be adapt electric p/s or some other mechanical p/s like saginaw, fj60/80/scout. I think folks have adapted electric p/s to your type column.

I went with the FJ80/105 steering box. It reduces the amount of moving parts.
Agreed- eliminating the miles of linkage helps a ton with road manners. PS on an early truck is a lot of work,60/80/EPS isn’t much more time than minitruck.
