So would saying "RDU" not accurately describe where you are?

What if you said "I live in the Triangle"?

More curious than anything. I say "Raleigh-Durham" on occasion.

whatever you do, don't say "Raleigh-Durham" when you are describing where you live/work. They are two distinct, different cities that aren't that close to each other.

K - thx for the local info :) We have a lot of local learning we need to do :)

Its all about knowing who the audience is. I wouldn't say that I will be working in Morrisville and living in Chatham or Alamance Co to anyone from KC, but to you guys, it probably makes perfect sense.

We do the same thing here. We say Kansas City, but that is really thought of as KC MO, typically. Around here we live in Johnson county - and every one knows that that means, even though, right across the border is another Johnson Co MO - but no one calls it by its county name LOL

Paww - I have read through that Priups site - fun stuff.

Once you start getting into the 4-6K range you are getting into a price that really can be achieved with a turn-key solution from a home generator electrical company. We were quoted $6.2k for a complete install with natural gas on a Generac 11 Kw 12 switch system - still not whole house nor whole house UPS, but if we are down for a few seconds its is no big deal when our computers have cheap APC back-ups on them or they are laptops with batteries, anyway.

Update - I accepted the verbal offer on the new position and to move two weeks ago, but still no written offer and no negotiations on the relocation package. *sigh* I think we are at ~70% likely to move at this point given all conditions.

We had intended to be in the area for xmas and new-years checking things out. We found a cool home in Graham, a couple in Pittsboro and Siler City. We also want to check out Holly Springs and Wake Forrest while we are out.

I think you'll see when you're out here that Graham, Siler City and Wake Forest are pretty significant commutes to Morrisville. Mebane in Alamance County is closer to Morrisville, but still pretty far. Pittsboro is a nice small town, but if a new proposed development is approved will increase in size by about 20,000 residents in the future. Holly Springs is nice, but is in Wake County (crazy school district) and you may need to use a toll road to get to work quicker.

Cary, Apex, Durham and Raleigh are closer to Morrisville. Find a good realtor and let them know what you're looking for in a community.

Mikeb1 - I like your howitzer there :) I was in a Paladin unit back 15 or so years ago :)

thanks for the advice

Wow small world for us 13B's. I was on a M109 in the 1st Armoured Division in Germany and a 105 in the 82nd Airborne way way back. I'm in Johnston County which is way far from Morrisville. Wake County schools really are only crazy for k-7. Once kids get into middle and high school, things are pretty normal. Wake County has some really good high schools (Millbrook, Leesville Road, Cardinal Gibbons, Broughton, etc) as does Orange County. My daughter is a junior in college and my son is a senior in high school so, we're about out of the public school system in NC. There are some good private schools in Raleigh like St. David's, Ravenscroft, etc. if you have the $$$ to go that route, if you're not crazy about public schools.

I saw a pretty nice lifted Mini truck on @ 35's w/ a custom "bed" in Pittsboro tonight - first vehicle seen in the area once I stepped out of the Prius :) We are driving from Cary to Apex through Pittsboro up to Graham tomorrow, I think :)

Stopping by Johnny's for a quick diesel swap into the Prius while you're local?

Hah! Wife and I were talking yesterday about how the Prius could use about a 1.5" lift and some all-terrain tires. Need some heavy rear springs for gear. Its such a pleasure to drive with a 400 mile range and a 10 gallon tank.

That house at Badin is probably 5 miles from the ORV trail head at URE, and within 15 miles of our ONC meeting ground for our big events. Nice garage. The Chapel Hill house is gonna need one too, right??? PM @alk747triodad for insight into the Badin area. He's got a place a few miles downstream.

If you've got the money, that's a great idea! Not sure how many people would want to rent houses just monday through thursday though :p

Check out www.vrbo.com, JC. It's amazing what you can find. Might be best for longer term rental if it's actually on the water, though.

My cousin has a cabin in Minnesota and uses VRBO and it rents fully all season (warm season) - they make enough to pay the whole year's mortgage and more in like 4 months renting it - - it is on the water tho :)

I was against the whole year round school myself with Wake County, but after two years of it, I love it. I love taking vacations without the rest of the US population!

Its official . . . . finally . . after months of waiting we are done and moving before June 1 to the area. I get to work from home until our home here sells, which could be as early as late February.

We are focused in on moving to NE Chatham County (but West of Lake Jordan) at this time, although Cary is cropping back up in our discussions at home :(

Anyhoo - Look forward to joining the club and doing 'cruiser things with you all in the future!
