Are you carrying bikes with you or are those 'vineyard bikes'?

Had a pretty scary experience in the last oil change in joacaba brasil. They put the truck up on the lift to drain the oil. As they lowered it to about the height to do the tire rotation the lift cracked the concrete mount. The truck dropped 6” or so onto the back left wheel drum. If it had happened while someone was under the truck it would have likely killed them.

No damage to the truck….

The troopy has been loaded into a container bound for Oakland from Montevideo Uruguay. Shared the container with a G Wagon. It should arrive in Oakland by 6/30.

It’s been a remarkable trip that’s covered well over 25k miles in S America alone and other than brakes and oil changes the truck has been flawless.

I’ll get it back to Portland and ask my mechanic to do a bumper to bumper inspection.

Planning to spend a lot of the winter in Baja then potentially ship to Spain or Portugal with an exploration of Morocco. We’ll see.

And there it goes….

The Land Cruiser apparently doesn’t like being back in the States. After 2.5 years of flawless operation in Central and South America, I picked it up in Oakland yesterday. After 3 months in a container it didn’t want to start. Dead batteries. I’m sure it didn’t help at all that they tried to start it with the kill switch on (asked not to do that). Got it jump started, then no brakes. Couldn’t get it started, then couldn’t get it stopped. Had it towed to a recommended Mud Land Cruiser shop in Walnut Creek. Needs a brake booster which hopefully installs tomorrow. It’s not raining, its not hot, the roads are paved and I speak the language. . There are a lot of rich folk in Walnut Creek.

what shop in Walnut Creek, if you don't mind sharing? I live relatively close by, could be handy for future reference. Valley Hybribs is also not far from there, if you end up needing more assistance. Georg (@orangefj45) and team are great.

Top Shop Auto.

They have good reviews and they’ve been helpful. Hopefully they get me rolling today. I’m not familiar with the area but if I’d known that Valley was close given their reputation I would have towed there.

Valley is quite close by! ~1 hour from Walnut Creek (without traffic). Let us know how it goes with Top Shop. Curious to hear your feedback after the fact.

Ok. I’m on the road now. The booster that we ordered for an ‘87 22re didn’t fit. Frank at Top Shop had a 70’s model 40 at his shop and it DID fit. The push rod is slightly short but it works well enough to get me back to Portland. Drove with it 300 miles today.

Time for a cold beer…..

I’m seriously considering selling the troopy. It’s served its purpose to me and I’d like to pass it along to someone else to enjoy.

I’d like to ask the group what you think it might be worth and the best venue to sell it. I’ve done some internet research on valuation and don’t see much of anything else like it.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Forgive me for coming out of hiding to chime in, but the post caught my attention. I’ll deep dive to learn how epic your journeys have been when time allows.

Certainly private sell it via this site, expeditionportal or bringatrailer as viable options to garner the biggest $$, with international buyers.

Local/regional Jdm/overland dealers may try to nibble at it, while also cutting your selling price down.

I’d love to entertain it, having spent the last year with a 97 Hiace , I’m looking onward to my next vehicle, and the dream of a 70 still rolls in my mind. However, even with a trade + cash, I’m still not in the ballpark of what this would fetch.

I’m sure others will add more significant insights to present built/traveled troopy market values.
