Great history and what an honor to keep-it-going.....like the red. I have a '66 that I am working on.

Rest in peace 86' FJ60... Your treasured memories live on in pops 45.

Hey Mike at Man-A-Fre, YOU ROCK! Thanks for your help in getting the right set up with the old man emu suspension kit. Call me once you confirm the anti-inversion shackles with the updated Felix package. We've got a rock solid chassis waiting for a "lift." ;)

Should be getting 4+Plus bumpers tomorrow.... Very excited to see them in person.

***Updated "Deluxe" package, not Felix...

Progress is a little slower lately. Received new old man emu suspension kit and a host of other weatherstripping and misc stuff we'll need. I Rec'd more shackles and pins than I ordered. I suppose that's much better than not enough! Man-A-Fre sending shipping materials so I can send extra back.

Right now.... Washing grease and dirt off of parts.

I need a replacement fuel tank if anyone knows where to get one. Prefer OE but plastic would be fine... Mine has something plugging the pick up line and its about 8" in. Had it at the radiator shop for two weeks & they said they have done all they can. Put 80lbs of pressure in tank and no air coming out when it should.

Obviously for my 1965 FJ45

Hmmm..

I would see if a fish tape or piece of wire could work its way through. I had a piece of bark or something that would occasionally block off the end as it got sucked into the tube and would starve the carb. Debris and rust could plug it up tight.. You can look in through the gauge hole and see where the pick up tube is I think.
Could it have possibly been soldered up during a repair job?

I agree. At this point the tank is trash, so get aggressive. I sealed mine up when I used liner inside the tank. I took a piece of clothes hanger cut it to length, chucked it into a drill and used it like a drill bit. Mine was a 67 tank, so the line came out toward the center of the vehicle and curved down inside the tank. You could not see it or the bottom due to baffles.

Anyway, I would "drill" for 10 seconds, not pushing too hard, then tried the air trick, and repeated getting more aggressive, until it pushed through the debris. then cleaned it out with air and some kerosene. I added an additional filter in line and she worked great.

Good luck.

Some updates & pictures...

My 7 year old Adam torquing some bolts on the rotor. He's always interested in jumping in to help. Wanted to "get greasy" today he said.

With very little help from me, Mr. Mike has reassembled the front axle. He worked some slick magic on the long-side axle shaft. Once I get the details I'll post...

With a mix of paint and new parts she looks brand new!!! Love to see the new BFG's almost ready to hit the ground.

Got a new license plate... It's a 1965 exact replica. May be able to actually use if DMV approves. I'm sure some "$persuasion$" may be required. Seems that's all the gov cares about anyway.

Ok follow up on how Mr. Mike changed out the birfield joint on the front axle. Click on link to the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0_jL83jMH8

Mike actually used an old axle housing and it took him two wacks and done. The point is to get something long enough for the shaft and narrow enough to catch the birfield and break the ring inside.
BTW - PVC will not work }:/

Update:

SLOW GOING!

Had to order and wait on an extraction tool to get the cross pin out of the rear locker (Thanks ARB for sending). Cross pin had to come out to get the c-clips out so we could pull the axle. The extraction tool is an L shaped tool (like an allen wrench) and has threads on long side. This must be threaded in to pull the lock key out which releases the cross pin.

Other than that all that's been done is order some rear brake parts and paint a few things. Waiting on the rear diff and axle housing to be done so I can prep the housing and put it back together.

This is a good test of my patience! Every time I walk out in the garage I think of what I can do to get this project completed. I'm tempted to send what I've got to a shop that can work on it daily to finish the build. With work, kids basketball, board meetings, and other time consuming events I just don't know how this project can be completed in the time I want/need it to be. My grandmother will be 95 in January and she's showing signs of decline. I'm feeling highly compelled to get this done soon so she will see it!!!
Any recommendations on a quality shop within 150 miles of Huntsville, AL that can work full time to help me complete this project? Would like to have completed by mid Jan or 1st of Feb.

I'm extremely grateful for the help Mike has provided... Fortunately for both of us our work schedules are not conducive to a steady focus on this project (glad we have paying jobs that is).

Nice tag... Roll Tide!

Funny you say that... The actual colors of the plate in 1965 was orange & blue - Auburn colors. I'm an Alabama fan so that's a tough one to put on my truck! Thinking about getting it repainting it Crimson & white (probably will if they don't let me register it).

ROLL TIDE!!!

I would try and find a retired panel beater close to your location maybe advertise for help. I'm sure he could use the extra money and you would love his old school ways of fixing your truck

Thanks for your service!

I read "I'll be restoring a '65, and motor has less than 30k miles on it". (Got all excited)

Then next line reads " I'll be selling original F motor" (yikes!)

Yikes! I understand it's your vehicle but... Yikes! Haha

Good luck with your build can't wait to "restore" my 40 and great story. Definitely will be watching this.
