So thermostat gasket goes around the lip of the thermostat not against it… dumb.

Correct. The grove inside the rubber gasket goes on the perimeter of the thermostat. Cruiser is back to life, correct?
Make sure to run several gum-out injector/cylinder cleaners. One bottle per full tank of gasoline. Repeat several times.

Yeah, it’s just fine. I couldn’t get coolant leak fixed so that’s how I found I did the gasket wrong lol. I’ll be sure to clean her out for the next few tanks with gumout. Thanks.

Heater fan was going crazy when I tried to burp coolant and smelled like death. Looks like 2 mice made a nice warm home in my blower until I had to go ruin it for them. Cross your fingers this is the last of my woes for a while…goodness.

Reviving this thread to update. It ran fine after with no smoke but a whistle started developing around 1500 rpm’s and got more consistent and louder. I ran gumout bottles through about 4 tanks.

Then after my battery died this spring and it sat for a month or two, I replaced the battery and backed out of the driveway. HUGE trail of liquid following me. Fuel was pouring out of my engine by the problematic cylinder.

Correct my thinking if it’s wrong, but I’m assuming this clearly indicates a head gasket failure. It was probably there to “steam wash” the #1 cylinder and caused the exhaust valves to burn. The gumout removed carbon and widened the gap there allowing the whistle and fuel leakage.

Are you sure it was gas, and did you identify exactly where it was coming from? You said "by the problematic cylinder"

How could fuel poor out of a cylinder? Is it Fuel or coolant?

Oh yeah I guess in my head I wax thinking coolant but this was definitely fuel. Whole driveway reeked.

Yes. It looked like it was coming from halfway point of engine by cylinder one but it was so much everything around and under that was soaked

No, it only ran for about 15 seconds but seemed normal. Only noticed the huge fluid trail.

Rodent chewed hole in a fuel line (hose), perhaps. Or green lock clip on fuel filter down stream hose side, let loose.

I guess the fuel pump would push it out and fuel isn’t sitting in the line all the time, once it’s drained out. I’m an idiot… thanks y’all.
