That's a good thought, we should add to the list what kind of space for sleeping we'll need. We'll be in a tent and self contained, so we can use a more primitive spot.

riderjgs (Jim) plus co-pilot (Bonnie). Rooftop tent so flexible on the campground space.

Lucy_FJ55, sorry you can't come wallow. You will be missed:(
scrapddady, at your suggestion I have included a line item for accommodations. Good foresite:rofl:

Updated roster: Includes accommodation requirements as in - self contained (only needs a parking space), tent (needs parking and tent site), RV [and/or trailer] (needs multiple parking)
Also added the offspring of our pigs that want to attend and who sired them:worms:

The numbers are not a hierarchy. They are for keeping count of how many are committing to the adventure of a lifetime.

Note:
The sooner that everyone can confirm their participation by acknowledging their accommodation needs the sooner accommodations can be set up. That will also help us all know that this is a real event. Even if your only 75% sure at the moment it will give us all an idea of what needs to be arranged. If later on you find you can't make it, so be it.

Lets pack as many pigs into the longest day of the year as we can.

Cheers,
Gordobe

Have tried to import the spread sheet so it looks organized but no luck

The Cayton campground allows up to two vehicles per reserved spot. The first come first serve spots have an area for a tent, a fire pit and a picnic table. I think there is also power at every spot. If you get there early enough, during the week, you have a good chance of grabbing one of those spots. I was thinking of reserving a spot, and if I can get away, grabbing a first come first serve spot as well. That way if anyone needs one, there will be extra. Otherwise, worst case, people with tents can camp wherever. I believe anyone can camp off a forest road within the National Forest. You may, however, need to register with the Forest Service and obtain a permit. There is a ranger station just down the road from the campground, so lots of information is available.

abqcruiser,

I was looking around the camps website, am I right that you can't reserve a spot yet, too early. I guess everyone who is for sure going, should reserve a spot as soon as possible. Do you have an opinion on the best sites at the campgrounds?

The following information I copied from two web sites. Cayton campground web page and US gov web page.

If the booking window shown below is correct, anyone planning on going might want to think about booking a site. I have no idea if a group can book. As it says below, the sites on the lower loop are said to be mostly level. Can't tell how many of them are advance reservable.

I will try and get more info ASAP.

Note: The following information is copied word for word from the above mention wep sites.
Cayton Campground is 6 miles northeast of Rico on Colorado Highway 145 (part of the San Juan Skyway) 43 miles from Dolores. The entrance is 1/2 mile east of the highway on the Barlow Creek Road (Forest Rd. 578). The campground has 27 campsites, many along the river. Eighteen sites offer 50 amp RV electric plug ins. There are 16 reservable sites, 11 with electricity, and 11 non-reservable sites, 5 with electricity. Fishing is popular on summer weekends. At 9,400 feet, expect cool evenings. A dry dump station is in place.

The campground, which has 27 campsites and three picnic sites along the river, will be undergoing renovation for the next few years.

Two loops offer a choice of sites. The lower one, near the river, has 14 mostly level spots with limited shade and three day-use picnic sites. The upper loop is gently sloping, with 13 sites. Both loops have pull-throughs and shady tent sites.

Booking Window

Thu Dec 22 2016 - Sun Jun 18 2017
Reservations must be made 4 Day(s) ahead of arrival and can be made up to 6 Month(s) in advance.

Thanks scrapdaddy for broaching the campsite issue

Also thanks to abqcruiser.

One more thing to discuss. How many nights. 4 nights and day runs, or 2 nights at Cayton and 2 nights on trails

Good information. Personally, setting up and breaking camp is a lot of work for an old man like me, so the idea of day runs sounds good, but minor in the whole picture. Question is can we find some good day trips in the area and the other thought is could we find camping spots for all of us on the trails.

This is really coming together, good job everybody.

Who's the guru of backroads of that neighborhood?
I was looking at the Funtreks Colorado trails and there looks like some day trips available. Have to do more studying.
Hope a guru chimes in!!!

We are self-contained, prefer a spot with fire ring but we’ll take what we get.

There are a lot of day trips that can be planned out of the campground. There's the back way into Telluride for one. There is another trip that can take you all the way to Silverton and then loop back on paved roads through Durango, Dolores.

The trip that I posted on my build thread was a forest road that is right there at the campground. We were easily out there for 5 hours and could have been out even longer if we wanted to keep going. My folks picked up a pretty good four wheeling book on routes and their difficulty ratings for that area. I'll try and get the name of it and post it later.

As far as Cayton Campground goes, I would try and avoid booking any spot that is too close to the entrance of the campground. It is a dirt road and you will get constantly dusted by all vehicles that pass by.

I made a Google Spreadsheet that is shared and everyone can update their own info. Just to help our new trailer guide. Click the link and forgive any mistakes, I did this on my cell phone.

Pig Party 2017

Wow, awesome momentum in here! Thanks all!

At this point I am not sure if the wife and/or son will be with me. I am probably bringing a pop-up camper, and would be up for day trips out of the campground mostly.

Thanks Mega, I will update the sheet when I find my google login.

Now that i am at a real computer i Updated the link. You should be able to edit without permission. However, I dont know if you need gmail to access. If anyone needs help i can add their info for them... or anyone can, i guess.

We want stickers for this event? Also, is it going to be called Pig Party, or Pig Fest, or something different? Keep in mind this will be happening every year till the end of time, or end of our pigs, so we may want a cool name.

Thanks for updating mine, I don't have a clue. No help with a name either, I say we let Pablo and Abqcruiser pick the name, it's their baby.

Thanks Megadoomer
Megadoomer, is Tacoma coming? abqcruiser, is FJ60 going to show?

With Lil'John we have 10 little piggies. Any more going to throw down their glove (hoof)???

Do we inform Stan Wright at Toyota Trails to spread the word (calling all pigs) that this is a "Pig Fest"

Need to get more Piggies signed on!!!

The book I was looking through is by FunTreks 100 4x4 trail in Colorado.

Yes, PabloCruise and abqcruiser what so you name this pork belly pot roast.
