Picture needed of throttle cable routing, Stock '73 FJ40

I will measure my stock cable tonight..not sure I remember it making a loop that large.

His is the original cable. I just bought him and myself new ones (SBK aftermarket). He hasn't put his on but, when I put mine, it did have a loop that size.

@S4Cruiser @thebigredrocker :

So I took some pictures today of what I have, in order to avoid 'speculation' on alternative arrangements. It's an OEM cable, and it's the same length as the one I removed.

It shows the loop, I just don't remember where it should be placed. Right now it's too close to the valve cover.
I plan on modifying the throttle linkage for my '71 FJ40 build. I'll be using the '76 2F that's currently in my '76 FJ40 but with a newly rebuilt '71 carburetor. I'll keep the '76 air cleaner with the thermal flap on the air intake, but the '71 cable routing interferes with the air cleaner. I just purchased a used bellcrank assembly, found a source (City Racer) for an adapter to fit the carburetor and air cleaner, and salvaged the correct carburetor linkage from a parts carburetor I had laying around. I also have an assortment of rods to assemble the linkage between the bellcrank and the carburetor, but not the specific '73 parts. What's the overall length of the rod from ball stud centerline to centerline? This is what I'm trying to piece together, from 78104 through 78104:

I don’t trust the flimsy factory turnbuckles. since your setup is going to be custom anyways, I’d just measure out your ballstuds once everything is mounted and cut open a 2F link and lengthened it to suit. This is what I do at the shop for people in your situation.

I'm thinking if you didn't care about being a throttle cable purist you wouldn't mind having an upgraded throttle cable. My Downey cable (a) does not use a lead slug on the inside at the pedal, which eventually frays and self distructs, and (b) the carburetor end is entirely trimm'able (fitting removable), can be shortened

so that you do not have to route the cable through a "loop".

When I post a photo with one of my messages, why does Mud just put it anywhere they want (ala above), how do I place the photo after all the copy ???

Place the cursor where you want the picture to go before you click full image.

I have a new cable 78180-90358 (Japanese aftermarket), so I'll start with that. I'm mocking up my engine first and will see how the setup works. I'll keep you in mind.

Yep, I've got a decent supply to work from.
