what is your reason for fitting leaf springs @Phildoh ?

Right. So why didn't you leave it stock? :D

ok then, continue....

Been off the rocker for a bit with a cancer possibly going on, so surgery happened recently and I'll know more in the week to come. As for the rig, she's getting closer to being back together. Got the weight in the springs, she's a bit taller, about 3" taller than before, so anyone wondering, 3/4 ton Chevy springs net about 9.5-10" of lift!
Now once I get the spare mounted up, all my gear, Jerry cans (2-5gal), tools (lits of tools, everyone is my friend when broken, including air tools) and it should squat a couple inches bring it closer to where it was. Here's how it sits at the moment while I recover for a week or so...

God Speed on your recovery... sorry to hear about all that you have been through.
As for the bold move to leaf springs.. it looks very simplistic & clean. No coils, control arms or panhard bar. I'm sure you will update on ride & handling later. I wonder if you have lost any weight with this swap? Your ready for those 38.5s TSL SXs...

I've been looking at tires while recovering and I'm in a pickle. I really want the aforementioned size, but they're only for 15 & 16" wheels. The TSL SX2's are putting out new sizes all the time, and although a little heavier than my 37's (not too much actually, about 18lbs ea), they have a 40x13.50/17 that's a Damm good looking tire, and with the sx being so damn tough, I'm trying to see why not, other than a little bit taller than I want, I have the room with leafs out back, I'd have to get a taller spacer for the front, but that doesn't bug me much. I just don't want to be over the top tall which I'm already pushing the limits. I'll definitely need chromo axles in the rear at that point too. Here's a pic I found online of that 40, whatcha think?!

That is one sexy looking tire... those lugs look very deep.

Nice! It looks like you could pretty easily french the shackle mounts into the frame and lose several inches of height if necessary. That rear axle looks so odd with no brackets on it... You still plan on shocks in the stock-ish location?

Best of luck on the medical issues man - That sucks!

I'm somewhat learning the setup as I go in this thing. It's somewhat like a larger version of the mini trucks in my younger years of wheeling. I really need to get it in the road and see how it handles. I mave a pretty good offset with the wheels to help with the width (2.5" BS) and the 37's have a nice footprint, I'll have to see how it does. I might need slightly longer shackles yet to get the pinion angle perfect, it's sits a little bit high in relation to the pinion angle, and I really don't like pinion shims on the spring perch, seen too many pop out, break, get stuck halfway in there... More of a pain inho. I know a guy that makes metal spacers like the MAF ones for the front, and he does a 2.5" one, which would get me an added inch if I ditched the poly spacer I already have in there already. That would give me a slight take that the spare tire, jack, compressor and a couple other things would compress down. I just gotta get it on the darn road!
Thanks for the well wishes, just when I'm getting close to my leg turning a new chapter, I get this other mess that is a whole new sub chapter in my health. I'm 37! WTFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!! Hopefully next week will bring good news and I can get back to moving fwd!

In reference to the pinion angle - are your perches welded onto the axle yet? I'd lean towards cutting them off and burning new ones on before I'd run shims (although I might settle for steel shims that bolt to the pack) or taller shackles (especially where the truck is already taller than you want.) If they're just tacked (or not) just set the pinion angle where it needs to be before they get welded on - I understand this is not as easy on an 80 axle due to the not quite round tubes.

I vote you drop the whole rig 4-5 inches, run the 40s and cut 'till they clear!:hillbilly:

Wishing you a speedy recovery man...you will be back on the trail in no time.
