PCV Valve…missing spring?

I decided to replace the hose from the carb to the PCV valve on my ‘64. I haven’t cleaned it in the 2+ years I’ve owned it.

I’ve always read you can shake it to see if it makes a noise to ensure it is clean..which mine does not even after cleaning. After taking mine apart….there is no spring. Should this version have a spring? If so, is there a particular spring I should get? The rubber part might also need a replacement….any replacements for that? On second thought should that rubber piece even be in there? There is no way anything gets past it when in there.

Any thoughts??

I don't believe there is a spring in any PCV valve. It relies on vacuum from intake to open the passage to the crankcase. When dirty, the dirt prevents the valve from opening.

I don’t think anything is getting by the rubber piece that the metal floating valve is in. I haven’t been able to find much info on the older PCVs like I have.

I know that oem for at least through the f and 2f afaik used weight calibrated pcv’s and not springs like a lot of manufacturers (like my old triumph had) most likely because its more reliable … springs can rust and disintegrate (like my triumph lol)

You should be able to feel the difference between a weighted pcv valve and spring

Aftermarket could utilize a spring as long as its in spec
