Here are the different ones originally available...Dan or Onur should be able to confirm if they can still be "found".

Steve

I got 2 of plastic head replacement keys a year ago to replace the hodge podge of misc brand keys that the PO gave me with my truck.

I ordered 3 and they deaership could only get their hands on 2:meh:

So I just went through this

My keys were sticking and looking more and more like a dagger than a key. I went to the local Toyota dealer with my registration and driver's license in hand and walked out with a new key, NO CHARGE. You'd be surprised how far you can get with a please and a thank you. Anyways, the dealer should be able to cut a new key based on VIN alone.

I am assuming you don't have any key. If you did, you could get copies made at most any dealer or Locksmith shop

with your VIN, they can look up the original key code and make you a new key when you don't have any

90999-00164 is the correct part number for the black-plastic-topped factory blank. The current published list price is $11.29 a rattle.

Maybe you got the last 2 Alex ;p

I do still have two original keys; one with the plastic on the wife's ring, and one without the plastic. I guess I'm a little retentive about these things, I just like the feel of the factory key. I tried to order a new key when I ordered a new steering lock mechanism. When I went to pick up the parts the boys behind the counter handed me this light, flimsy little Strattec brand key and said the originals are no longer available

I have 8 blanks in stock at the moment.

Thanks Dan. Just called the dealer and they said something about the -00164 number updating to -00175. He checked and said he thinks both numbers are available. I ordered the 00164. We'll see what happens.

Sorry Dan, I keep missing your posts while writing. If these guys let me down again I'll be calling. Thanks again.

EDIT: Just ordered two factory key blanks with the plastic head from American Toyota with the MUD discount shipped to my door for less than my dealer wanted for two all metal key blanks from my local Toyota Dealer!

Those went years ago and my parts cleats went in the display case over two years ago.

Update on findings OEM Keys. I was looking for my '95 and found the Black Toyota Keys on ebay see -->Genuine OEM Toyota Land Cruiser 91-97 blank Key 90999 00174 | eBay, received within 4 days. My locksmith asked me to make sure they fit in the door and ignition as blanks before I brought them to him. They did fit and the locksmith was easily able to cut the keys. He also suggested to take a picture of your keys before you lose them, with the right blank a good locksmith can cut them from the image if they have to Also, have them give you the key code they used, i wrote mine down in my manual under "keys" on page 7...in the event i lose them somehow.

Key Blanks.webp

These are easily available at any dealership, and they will precut it based on your VIN.

Not necessarily, I hoped it was that simple. I called my (1) local dealership and (3) dealerships in the Houston area, none of them had the OEM blanks in stock, but could get some from other dealerships or could order/pre-cut keys for you. I needed a spare quickly. So, I just did it myself through ebay, $26 for (2) blanks and $15 for the (2) cuts. ebay order to keys cut in (4) days, and I didn't have to drive 1.5 hrs into Houston. Some people are not that close to dealerships, so this is another option if presented with the same roadblocks.

these are readily available dude and have been for some time. The real gem would be finding the Og keys which feel better in the hand.
