Well, this thread will be interrupted by cobwebs and crickets. At least until this summer when the budget improves.
I fully understand that!!!! If only...... I'm not in a position to do swap now so gives me something to look forward to.

Sometimes it's the little things. U-Pull showed two new trucks yesterday. 2000 4Runner and 2001 Taco. Taco should not have been set out in the yard and just crushed. The 4Runner was a 3.4L, but, it had the charcoal canister I was missing. Was it the same? It looked right, so I brought it home. It plugged into my harness just dandy.

One way or another I'm going to cobble this thing together.

the exhaust valves are known to tighten up on the 3rz over time so it's a must to perform an adjustment. They are shim style and use the same shims as many other Toyota motors. It's a good idea to go to the pick-n-pull and harvest a bunch of the shims so you will have what you need otherwise they are upwards of $20 a shim if I remember correctly. here's a list of same style shim motors

Excellent. That will be helpful. I haven't even checked, mostly because the head will get rebuilt and the adjustment will change.

Heh, I just realized I've never adjusted the valves in the 3MZ in our Highlander, it's about to hit 200K. Maybe I'll check them this Spring since I need to do the valve cover gaskets anyway (leaking). The rear bank will be a b****.

rear cover isnt bad, you will need a new plentum gasket as you have to take off the intake. theres a few braces in the back of the intake that you can get with a long 1/4 ratchet, the bolts are 12mm and you will need to remove the brackets from the intake and losten them from the head so you can get the intake out. unplug the a/f sensor from the harness and thatll give you more

The screws are only $1.09 list at Toyota and I'm going to replace all nine.

Other Kits & Merchandise, you an get replacement oil pump cover bolts from here and their torx instead of jis screws.

More cobbling. T100 oil pan. Also knocked out the plug for the dipstick tube while I had the pan off.

What did tho$e $et you back?

$107.34 to my door. I had to buy the whole set, even though I only need the engine and wiring stuff.

I like paper.

The only way to go! IETMs suck. Paper let you drag it around, poke it with your greasy fingers and really is a faster reference when searching for that one thing you need to work on.

My computer is in the house, not the garage.
I can see two pages at once, and flip through them quickly.
A phone/tablet screen is very limited in what it can show.
I don't mind getting a book dirty.
Using a phone/tablet with greasy gloves on is silly.
I don't have to waste paper at the printer.

also a good trick with the shims is sometimes you can flip the shim over to get the correct clearance and the bottom isn't going to get any ware from the cam

When I did the first adjustment on my 3RZ (60K miles) I got lucky and was able to juggle the shims around. Adjusted 12 valves I think and only had to buy one shim. Expensive shim tho.
